The Owl is situated in the small hamlet of Ashen Cross just half a mile from the village of Pelynt (with convenience stores, post office, quirky tea room and a thriving village pub) and we are less than 2 miles from the stunning South Coast of Cornwall.
The beautiful beach at Talland Bay and the quintessential fishing village of Polperro are just a 40 minute walk, with the bustling seaside town of Looe less than 3 miles away - making this the perfect location from which to explore and enjoy this ever popular part of Cornwall. The Monkey Sanctuary (7.5 miles), the thriving commercial seaport and designated area of outstanding beauty of Fowey (just over 7 miles using the Bodinnick ferry crossing), The Eden Project (18 miles), and a host of other activities and attractions are all within easy reach.
But it is the semi-rural setting which makes this holiday destination extra special. As well as having secluded outdoor space, guests are able to relax and recharge in over 3 acres of land which includes two beautiful fresh water lakes. A strategically placed Summer House provides the perfect place to lose yourself in the wild and wonderful world of the natural inhabitants here.
The large lake is well stocked with fish and when you stand on the decking by the summer house the carp, roach, trench and orf, along with our resident ducks Doris and Declan, will all come over to take a look at you. Guests angling for a catch will find the perfect spot to tickle their fisherman's tales - previous guests report they've had some of their best ever fishing days down here. Dogs with energetic owners will find plenty of space to run up on the field.
The Owl is one of only two holiday cottages on offer here, enjoying complete privacy from each other and the adjacent Barn where the owners live. The cottages have been welcoming guests for over 15 years, and new owners Geoff and Tracy Tyrrell are keen to make the very most of what they have to offer; improvements are being made all the time - the welcome hamper which includes home-baked scones and bread, as well as locally sourced clotted cream, beer and cider, and a generous helping of milk, butter, jam, and other basics is winning everyone's seal of approval. Our guests also enjoy mid-week fresh towels.
Access to The Owl is via a stone, railed, staircase leading up from the ample car parking offered in the courtyard.
Originally a grain store, the property was converted in 1997 and offers spacious, open plan living, kitchen, dining space. There is a large master bedroom and a good size twin bedroom (with a wall mounted flat screen TV). The bathroom offers shower over bath. The cottage is furnished to ensure home-from-home comfort, with a flat screen TV, a modern wood-burning stove and a generous selection of books, DVDs and games to help you relax and enjoy your stay. The kitchen has everything you would expect to find in a modern kitchen with additional luxuries like the Nespresso coffee machine and a dish washer. The twin bedroom has a wall mounted flat screen TV.
The private garden is accessed by French doors leading out from the living area. A range of seating means you can always find a perfect spot to sit to soak up the day or night. We've added a Weber BBQ and provide a pack of coals to get you all fired up.
Whilst being fully respectful of your privacy, living on-site means we're always here if you need us.

This is our 6th visit to this beautiful, tranquil oasis, it now feels like our '2nd home' The Owl is fully equipped with everything we needed for us and our doggys 🐕 ❤️ Tracy & Geoff have created a truly magical sanctuary here & Tracy always gives us such a warm welcome! On arrival we had fresh scones, jam and cream, homemade bread and a few treats in the fridge! There were also treats & blankets for our doggys. Midway through our stay fresh towels were provided and more cake 🎂 🥮 such a lovely touch! This time we explored Port Isaac, Flushing, Looe and Polperro. Our doggys are treated like part of the family and have the freedom of the lakes and woodland to explore.
Went to the Jubilee Inn for meals out which we can recommend.
Met two gorgeous new arrivals since our last visit, Lilly and Lola, adorable lambs who were super friendly and I got to feed and stroke. Such a lovely thing to be able to do!
The onsite fishing lake is well stocked, very peaceful and there is a lovely summer house to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine & the beautiful surroundings, this is definitely our 'happy place' we can't wait to be back!
Thank you so much Tracy & Geoff for making us so welcome, ensuring every moment of our stay was just perfect and giving us the chance to rest, enjoy and relax! Tracy, keep being your amazing self and giving all your guests the best time!!!
Lots of love until next time!

Lovely week near Looe at Ashen Cross
Owl cottage was the perfect base to explore Looe and the surrounding areas. Tracy was the perfect host and we were greeted with fresh baked scones and bread along with milk and local cider and beer. Tracy helped with recommendations and supplied fresh towels and more cake half way through the week. The property itself is very comfortable with a private courtyard and BBQ. My husband and I enjoyed sitting by the pond with a Prosecco from the honesty bar. We will definitely return.

What a great place to stay!
I stayed in The Owl in June and have to say that it was a really great experience. To come back after a long day out and sit down by the lake with a glass of wine was amazing. It was my first stay here but Tracy greeted me like a long lost friend, she really is a wonderful hostess. The accommodation was spotless and I have never come across so many extras provided in the twenty or so years that I have been using self catering. To be greeted with a cream tea was lovely but to also have a freshly baked loaf, fresh hens eggs, beer, cider and 5 different teas as well as coffee and sugar shows how far Tracy goes to make you feel at home. The honesty bar in the summer house was also pretty amazing. When I book my holiday in Cornwall next year this will be my first choice.

Our relaxing holiday to Looe
Another wonderful stay at the Owl at Ashen Cross in Pelynt courtesy of Tracey & Geoff and their furry family who always make us feel so welcome!
This is our 5th visit and has become our 'home from home' we have already re-booked our next stay!!! The cottage is absolutely stunning, relaxing & very cosy! The perfect place to recharge. It has everything you need and Tracey kindly supplies home made cakes/bread and a welcome pack which is always appreciated. We were even treated to some amazing chocolate brownie cake as we were celebrating a birthday during our holiday. Perfect for our two doggys with a great field and safe enclosed grounds for them to explore. There is a lovely summerhouse which has a well stocked fridge and cute little honesty box. Wonderful to sit in on the comfy sofa, read a book and enjoy a glass of wine! This is situated next to a beautiful tranquil lake which is full of Carp, Roach and Rudd, ideal for anyone who enjoys fishing! The cottage is perfectly situated in between beautiful Polperro and Looe and the local pub, the Jubilee is great for food.
For those that love a good hike and a challenge there is the incredible Lantic Bay, definitely worth the steep decent but just remember you have to climb back up!! Definitely not for the faint hearted!
Had the best time and can't wait to come back!!!
Thanks again for such a wonderful holiday, for all your kindness and for just being the best hosts ever!!
See you in the summer ☀️ xxx

Ideal Cottage Accommodation
If you are thinking of visiting Looe do not hesitate to book this ideal accommodation where you will have comfortable beds, hot showers, peaceful setting as well as a host that goes the extra mile. We were greeted with homemade scones, clotted cream, butter & jam, as well as milk and free range eggs. The expresso coffee machine was also enjoyed by us. My husband enjoyed fishing in the lake nearby and our dog loved the morning walk meeting the chickens and the sheep. Thank you Tracey & Geoff.

Birthday break
What can we say! Another amazing holiday at Ashen Cross, Tracey and Geoff made us so very welcome and as always very accommodating and helpful. The Owl is just stunning to stay in, warm and cosy, comfy bed, fully equipped with everything we needed for our weeks holiday to celebrate Dave's birthday 🎂 we even had some extra treats! The bbq was great and the beautiful lake is fantastic for fishing well stocked with Carp and good size Roach all in immaculate condition, we even got to feed the sheep! The summer houses are relaxing to sit in and have a glass of wine and read a book. We explored nearby Lansallos Bay, Polruan, Polperro and Looe. Highly recommend the Jubilee pub for food. Thanks once again for a wonderful relaxing break. We will be back! Xxx

Amazing place
Just been for our 3rd or 4th visit ( lost count now) to the holiday cottages. We've always stayed in the court but came with family this time, so booked the owl. Lovely spacious cottage complete with Christmas tree, which was a lovely touch. As always arrived to Tracy's delicious bundle of goodies, homemade scones, jam, cream, freshly baked bread and milk. Cottage was exceptionally clean and well stocked with everything you would need for your stay . Lovely log burner fire on in the evenings. Even though weather wasn't brilliant we were still able to go out and about and the grounds are lovely, well stocked pond with lovely summer house to sit in and enjoy a tipple from the fridge ( just pop your money in the honesty box) We were also lucky to see the sheep and lambs arrive to look after the field . Would definitely recommend a stay here anytime of year, Tracy is an amazing host.

How to get there
Using a SatNav our postcode will take you to a local caravan park, it is better to come via East Taphouse on the A390 and then the B3359 to Pelynt or head for Looe.
If you make your way to Looe cross the bridge that connects East and West Looe and follow this road [the A387 Polperro Road] westward rising up the hill out of town. Pass the turning to Trelaske and then turn right onto the B3359 signposted to Pelynt.
About a mile along this road look out for a ‘bends in road’ sign, go round a sharp right hand bend, on the right you will see polytunnels in a field, our drive is then on the right. There is sign for ‘Ashen Cross Farm’ at the top of the drive. The Barn is located at the end of the drive.
If you come from the A390 follow the signs for Looe and the B3359, you will drive through Pelynt, once through the village and beyond the 30mph limit don’t turn off to Trelay Caravan park [that’s where your satnav will want to go] keep on the B3359, look for a ‘bend in the road’ sign on your left and the ‘Ashen Cross Farm’ sign at the top of our driveway is just beyond the ‘bend in road’ sign, come down the drive and our house faces you at the bottom of the drive.
Parking is at the bottom of the drive on your right.
The Court is located up the sloping driveway adjacent to the house, The Owl is opposite the main house and is accessed via a flight of stone steps.
