It lies within strolling distance of the village amenities (9 minutes), and Penshaw Monument (20 minutes). There are plenty of rural and riverside walks and a number of country pubs within a short distance of the property. The NE has so much to offer, great shopping, sporting attractions, restaurants, nightlife, nature and of course a wealth of history. The Briar Rose is an excellent location to make the most of the variety on offer.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Lovely comfy, well equipt bungalow in a quiet location, ideal for touring the area. Great having more than 1 tv and loved the spacious kitchen. Will definitely be back.

Excellent property to base a holiday
We have had a brilliant week at Briar Rose, helped along by fantastic weather. The bungalow was immaculately clean (much appreciated in the current climate) and covid procedures were very well thought out and reassuring. It is very well equipped, WiFi works well and good TV reception. Briar Rose is very handy for the motorway and A19, making all attractions very easily accessed. A trip to Beamish is a must - but be aware that many attractions get booked up in advance very quickly (especially National Trust and Beamish). Also had a good day out at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The garden is well maintained and the patio is quite a sun trap (when it shines). Would highly recommend.

Relaxing stay at the bungalow
I needed to rent a place while my house was being refurnished. The bunglow was extremely comfortable and relaxing. It exceeded all my expectations. All requirements needed were available. A lovely place to stay and I can highly recommend it to anyone needing to rent a property. I needed to extend my stay and that was no problem. The owner was more than helpful throughout my stay.

Amazing place to stay
The bungalow was a great place to stay. It was warm and had everything and more that any guest would need. The little extra additions, like milk, bread, butter biscuits, cereal was very generous. It was perfectly located for everything I wanted to do and only three miles from a great choice of shops.

Excellent Comfortable Bungalow!
We stayed from 16th to 23rd August...and very much enjoyed our visit. The Bungalow is above and beyond regarding cleanliness and comfort, with everything you need. Lots to do and places to visit. We had good weather overall, and the sheltered patio made for a lovely sun trap! Thank you very much to Ray and to Housekeeper Denise. Pat, Paul Nic and Jo.

beautiful bungalow which was exceptionally clean and well furnished
Great location for mum and I to visit the county, easy to get to Durham and the coast including some lovely days spent at South Shields, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. Lovely to have a proper home to come back to at the end of each day and spent our late afternoons sitting peacefully in the garden.

Ideal base for exploring the north-east
Brilliant location - 20 minutes from Seaham beach, half an hour from Whitley Bay via Tyne Tunnel, 15 minutes from Beamish, 5 minutes from lovely park and cricket ground in Chester le Street, with Durham/Darlington/Newcastle within easy reach too. Lovely family-friendly bungalow, comfortable beds, great shower, sunny garden at the back, smart kitchen diner. We will definitely rebook if we need to stay in the area again.
