The Cottage is an original 17th century farm workers cottage which still retains original features and character, but now also benefits from full central heating, a 'living flame fire' in the lounge and an ensuite shower room. Quietly situated in its own enclosed garden, The Cottage is a delightful retreat for dog owners and non-dog owners alike, whatever the season. In summer, open the stable door and sit out in the garden at your own patio table. In winter, enjoy the warmth of the modern heating system and the ambience of a living flame fire. The Cottage has an open plan lounge/ kitchen / dining room with a flat screen TV with Freeview and integral DVD player. There are also books and games for when you are ready to relax. The kitchen is well equipped with full size oven and hob, fridge ...The Cottage is an original 17th century farm workers cottage which still retains original features and character, but now also benefits from full central heating, a 'living flame fire' in the lounge and an ensuite shower room. There are beautiful views from the bedroom windows of the Forest and to the Severn River. Bed linen and towels are provided. A cot, high chair and stairgate can be provided on request although, with an open staircase this cottage may not be suitable for adventurous crawlers! Pets are welcome in this cottage. Please advise when booking. The charge for pets is: 1 pet £25; 2 pets £35; 3 pets £45. There is free WiFi on site, but because of the thick walls of this cottage you may not be able to get a signal indoors. There are spacious grounds surrounding The Cottage. The Cottage garden opens onto The Paddock, from which there is direct access into The Forest of Dean, an area abundant in footpaths and cycle tracks and home to deer, foxes, badgers and many other little animals, birds and butterflies. The village of Yorkley is only half a mile away. Yorkley village has 2 pubs, 2 general stores, a post office, hairdressers, health centre and community centre. The Forest of Dean also has a wealth of man-made attractions and activities, such as Clearwell Caves, Go Ape, Puzzelwood where Merlin and other films were shot, the Sculpture Trail, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow and Goodrich Castles, kayaking and canoeing on the River Wye, surfing or just watching the Severn Bore - a world famous phenomena. We are also within easy reach of small and large towns and cities such as Lydney, Monmouth, Chepstow, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol and Bath. The owners live adjacent to The Cottage and personally inspect that the cottage has been thoroughly cleaned prior to guests' arrival, and are also on hand to answer any questions.More

Run by very nice people, the cottage is in a holiday complex but you don't notice this, there is a Tesco close by in Lydney for groceries, excellent for dogs as you are on the edge of the forest for dog walks.

Thanks for the lovely review! I am glad that you enjoyed staying here and walking with your dog straight into the forest. We are 'out of the way' and yet only 3 miles from Lydney town so we have the best of both worlds here!

About the neighbourhood
Our cottages are situated right beside the beautiful Forest of Dean. Open the gate and you are in the forest! The forest is a wonderful playground and learning experience for children, and loved by cyclists, walkers, birdwatchers etc. There are also many attractions to visit locally, such as caves, castles, steam railways, heritage centres etc., and activities to get involved in - climbing, canoeing, kayaking, walking, cycling, golf, fishing, horse-riding etc.
Getting around
The best way to really explore the local area and to see the wildlife are on foot or by bicycle. By car is the best way to visit those attractions a little further away.
