Kilmartin Museum is well worth a visit to discover the rich history of this ancient land. The nearby town of Lochgilphead has a variety shops, cafes restaurants, hospital/doctors surgery, a swimming pool, golf course and sports center. There is also a shop where bicycles can be hired. Boats can be chartered from Crinan harbour and there are wildlife safari trips around the islands where it is possible to see whales, porpoise, seals, many sea birds including golden and white-tailed eagles, and the spectacular Corryvreckan Whirlpools. A walk, cycle or drive from Crinan to Ardrishaig is 9 miles and provides you with the perfect opportunity to take in the stunning views of Mid Argyll and watch the boats sailing by. Recently decorated to a high standard with double glazing and bath room with a claw foot bath, the cottage has two bedrooms, with the room to the front giving open views across the canal to the hills beyond, and the rear twin bedroom having views out to the woodland to the back of the cottage.. The ground floor comprises a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a cosy sitting room with an enclosed wood-burning fire. Starter pack of logs etc provided. Free Wi-Fi (fibre-optic) and internet connection recently installed. Outside table/chairs are provided in summer months in the small alpine garden to the front to relax and watch the boats go by. A lovely cosy cottage in a great location. The wood-burning stove is especially good. The shower over the bath is a bit tricky but the owner is aware of and sorting out the problem. Fabulous place, highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
Crinan Canal Cottage is situated in the much sought-after hamlet of Cairnbaan, a charming area of unspoilt natural beauty approximately halfway along the Crinan Canal. The canal itself is picturesque and beautifully landscaped, and provides plenty of interest with the daytime passage of boats to and fro.Cairnbaan is very conveniently located within 3 miles of the shopping and leisure facilities of the small town of Lochgilphead, and within 2 hours' drive of Glasgow. Lochgilphead is the main centre for mid-Argyll and its amenities include shops, schools, businesses, sports facilities, a swimming pool, a hospital and council offices. Cairnbaan is also situated approximately 30 miles south of Oban - known as the Gateway to the Isles.
Getting around
During its course from Ardrishaig northwards to Crinan Loch, the Crinan canal passes through some of Argyll's most outstanding countryside, and its 15 locks and 7 swing bridges provide added interest for visitors. For the sporting guest, golf is available at the nearby Lochgilphead Golf Club. The excellent fishing includes facilities for sea angling and salmon fishing. Many attractive hill forest walks are to be found in the vicinity of the hotel and walking or cycling along the Crinan Canal is a popular pursuit. Crinan Canal Cottage is an easy drive from the nearby village of Tayvallich. There are opportunities for sailing, and yachts are available for charter.
