Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Comfy cottage in a lovely spot
This cottage is in a lovely corner of Argyll with plenty to do in the surrounding area. We had a lovely week here and like many others we hope to return next year. The cottage has everything you need, and we particularly liked the new bathroom.

The lovely No. 8 😁 💙
Had another fabulous week at the cottage on the canal. It was our 3rd holiday here, and just booked again! Says it all. The location for us is perfect, loads of lovely walks straight from the door step. You only need the car when u need essential supplies 🍷🍺! So if you have a dog, or you just like walking, this is the perfect location. The cottage its self is cozy and warm. The kitchen is adequately equipped for me for my cooking addiction! And there are some great shops in Lochgilphead for your fresh local produce, butchers, fishmonger & deli for cheeses... Mmmm! We really spoil ourselves when were here. Cant wait for next time. Thanks Pauline for another great stay . Jen Steve and Reggie the Irish Setter xxx

A very cosy place to stay
We were really looking forward to our stay at Cairnbaan Cottage and it didn't disappoint. The cottage had everything we needed and was COVID safe. We really enjoyed sitting by the log burner in the evenings and it made the whole cottage really warm. There was a lot to do in the surrounding area and Pauline, our host, gave us lots of ideas and information. She was the perfect host - always on hand if we needed anything. We'll definitely be back!

Charming cottage on the canal
My son and I had a wonderful holiday at Crinan Canal Cottage No 8. The owner could not have been more helpful with kind suggestions for local sites to see and things to do and the nice couple at no. 6 were very welcoming. The cottage was very comfortable and well kitted out. It is also well placed for shops in Lochgilphead, and some of the great things Argyll has to offer.

Cosy cottage on crinan canal
Just had a lovely cosy stay at Pauline Houston cottage on the Crinan canal. The cottage was fully equipped including towels, hairdryer and had a logburner stove. Very important to us it was dog friendly. The cottage is ideally placed with plenty of wildlife and historical monuments closeby. Pauline as a wealth of local information that she is more than happy to share. Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage in a great location
We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage which includes a very cozy living room, well equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The main bedroom has gorgeous views over the canal and across the valley. There is a front garden with table and chairs to sit out. The cottage is only a few yards away from the canal path, which is ideal for walking and running, with many paths linking into the canal path. Lots of archaeological sites in the area. Good range of tourist leaflets in the cottage and the owner provided more suggestions during our holiday. Certainly hope to come back!

About the neighbourhood
Crinan Canal Cottage is situated in the much sought-after hamlet of Cairnbaan, a charming area of unspoilt natural beauty approximately halfway along the Crinan Canal. The canal itself is picturesque and beautifully landscaped, and provides plenty of interest with the daytime passage of boats to and fro.Cairnbaan is very conveniently located within 3 miles of the shopping and leisure facilities of the small town of Lochgilphead, and within 2 hours' drive of Glasgow. Lochgilphead is the main centre for mid-Argyll and its amenities include shops, schools, businesses, sports facilities, a swimming pool, a hospital and council offices. Cairnbaan is also situated approximately 30 miles south of Oban - known as the Gateway to the Isles.
Getting around
During its course from Ardrishaig northwards to Crinan Loch, the Crinan canal passes through some of Argyll's most outstanding countryside, and its 15 locks and 7 swing bridges provide added interest for visitors. For the sporting guest, golf is available at the nearby Lochgilphead Golf Club. The excellent fishing includes facilities for sea angling and salmon fishing. Many attractive hill forest walks are to be found in the vicinity of the hotel and walking or cycling along the Crinan Canal is a popular pursuit. Crinan Canal Cottage is an easy drive from the nearby village of Tayvallich. There are opportunities for sailing, and yachts are available for charter.
Access
Car advised
How to get there
From Lochgilphead, proceed along the main road (A83) and at the final roundabout, take the A816 to Oban. Continue along A816 for approximately 2 miles, until the road forks to the right and shows signs for Oban. Take the left hand turning into Cairnbaan. From Oban, take the A816 south for Lochgilphead. Continue for approx 30 miles and pass through the village of Kilmartin. After about 5 miles the road forks to the left and shows signs for Lochgilphead, but there will be a sign for Cairnbaan to the right. Turn right into Cairnbaan, Crinan Canal Cottage is located on the banks of the Crinan Canal - which is a 9 mile waterway link through the Kintyre Peninsula. The cottage is situated midway along the canal. Stay on the right side of the canal as you pass the Cairnbaan hotel - DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE. Continue for another half mile until the road forks. You can either go right (IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU TAKE THIS TRACK due to IT BEING UNEVEN WHEN FULLY LOADED)and follow the track between the cottages until you come to a greenhouse and the carpark for No8 which is after the second row of white cottages that you pass through, or recommended that you can stay on the road - with the canal on left hand side and turn first right after the second row of cottages in front of the green, passing the 10 mph sign and before the life buoy and double back in the first carpark and come down the lane to reach No8 where you can unload and carry on to No8's carpark.
