Mas Darre la Foun

Overview
Holiday Rental House -
4 Bedrooms , 4 Bathrooms , Sleeps 8
Limoux, Aude, Occitanie
Beautiful views are a given as the village of Villelongue d'Aude sits in the Razes, in the toe-hills of the Pyrenees. To the North beyond the medieval city of Carcassonne rise the Black Mountains; to the East the Corbieres, wild land of vines and eagles; to the West the dairy-rich Ariège and to the South the gorges of the river Aude splashing down through picturesque market towns to the Spanish border. This is Cathar country where castles cling to rocks and ghosts of intellectual heretics take to arms. The warm Mediterranean is an hour away in one direction and the first ski stations of the Pyrenees an hour away in the other. Toulouse is a similar distance if you fancy some Big City culture.

Much closer beckon the lively town of Limoux with its Summer concerts and Winter carnivals; the lake of Montbel for paddling a kayak into the...

Interaction with guests
I respond very quickly to all pre-holiday contacts. We leave you a key in a key-safe so you are not pressured to a timetable and at some point on your arrival day Barry-the-Brit and his delicious wife Christine will pop up and say howdy. They live in the village and are available for support during your stay. Barry looks after the pool but gets up likely before you will, and is very discreet. You may see Michael who looks after the garden, for a couple of hours one day. He sings to concert standard and plays woodwind. Music and gardens - what a wonderful combination!

Thank you Helen. You're right, the different seasons make different experiences. Autumn can be very gentle here and it's great for walking or cycling. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Clare

About the neighbourhood
The Aude region has gentle hills and rugged hills, sea, beaches, ski-stations, lakes, forests and of course, the Canal du Midi. In addition to its natural attributes, the towns and villages are very attractive and the weight of history is ridiculous. Fish soup at a beach restaurant on the coast or cassoulet in a mountain inn are typical options for dining. It is a celebrated area for cycling, walking and painting.

Ryanair is the main carrier and the 'bus' flight is not much more than 1 hour 40 from the North of the UK and significantly less from the South.

Easyjet and British Airways fly to Toulouse. All the above are via motorways so Montpellier, at the greatest distance, takes just under two hours.

Driving down from the tunnel takes nine or ten hours and it is worth heading towards Rouen and not Lille so as to avoid the three hours extra you may have fighting your way out of Paris. If you can accommodate an overnight stop-off, try Blois in the Loire, just off the motorway. Driving is peaceful and easy...
