The Saltings provided an excellent base for our visit. In a quiet, spot with safe, off road parking and superb travel links to the centre of Bath. A beautiful city but not so good for driving in. So Batheaston was perfect. With a bus from the front door into the City Centre every 15 minutes - up to almost midnight...

Thanks for the review Len and pleased you enjoyed your stay. We bought a new can opener and corkscrew on the day you left. Not sure where the opener disappeared to as there has always been one there. The heater control is more of a mystery as it is electronic with no moving parts so not sure what you were...

There's not much in Batheaston but we liked it - friendly, very convenient for other, perhaps more interesting places, and a quiet, comfortable setting. The only real issue was the overpowering heat - plastic bags of shopping melted when you put them down on the underfloor heating for a moment (I am exaggerating - but it was hot!) But I'd...

Management response:

Thanks for the review Margery, though we have to say that we and dozens of our previous guests find there is a tremendous amount to do in Batheaston. Admittedly, the walking, boating, sightseeing and many other things we give you ideas about in our guide, are somewhat weather dependent and a cold January is not the perfect time of year...

Very nice cottage, small, but with the space where you need it. Staircase is a bit tight, but in a superb location, and well equipped. Nice touch providing tea bags, bread, butter and even a bottle of wine.

About the neighbourhood
Bath is a World Heritage tourist destination, its history dating back to pre Roman times. It is acknowledged as the second most popular tourist destination in England and the 4th most popular in the UK.

Renowned Georgian architecture rivalling that of Paris, Venice or Rome has been enhanced in recent years with the addition of the £45+million Thermae Bath Spa, Britain's only natural thermal spa, featuring the natural mineral waters which first attracted the Romans, who named Bath, Aquae Sulis. The Thermae Bath Spa offers every kind of luxury pampering experience, including the open air roof top hot bath, which is not to be missed.

But it's not just about history and architecture.

Bath has some of the best shopping, eating and drinking experiences to be had.

Getting around
We are very lucky to have excellent transport links of all kinds, especially the bus stop on the road outsidse the courtyard.

Guests find this the most convenient way to access the City, bypassing much of the trafiic with bus lanes. On average it takes about 10 minutes to the City. Most guests leave their cars in our car park and use the bus for the duration of their stay.

But perhaps the most popular way to access the City is by water! Just 10 minutes walk from the property is the Bathampton Mill where you may catch one of a number of river buses into the City from March to Oct. It is a beautiful way to see Bath from another angle. Return to Batheaston by bus.

For those arriving by train, a taxi will bring you to us for less than £10

Tucked into the corner of a listed building with origins in the 16th century, The Saltings is accessed through a courtyard just off the High Street in the village of Batheaston, one of the small suburbs of the famous historic City of Bath.

Access by road is very simple. We are about half a mile from the main roundabout intersection of the A46 onto the London Road going into Bath.

There is a secure car parking space immediately in front of The Saltings, whilst the bus stop, with regular services to and from the City, is immediately in front of the main building on the High Street. Typical journey time by bus or car is 10 minutes.

You can also walk or cycle, the towpath along the canal being a particularly attractive route. A really lovely way to access the City is by one of the regular c...
