Special Events Now for Spring 2019 - Cheese w/end, Mother's Day, Easter...just ask! The Apple Store is the ground floor of the owner's Victorian Forest farmhouse; once used for storing fruit and making cider, now lovingly refurbished to make a self-contained all on one level apartment. Sleeps 4 With parking for 2 cars and patio/covered area and garden directly outside, it is ideal for guests who find stairs challenging. One double bedroom, an open-plan farmhouse-style kitchen/living room and one bathroom including bath with shower over are tastefully dressed in Victorian style with genuine antiques and collectables of the period. An Aga range cooker is a feature of the kitchen which is fully equipped with combination microwave oven, kettle, toaster, juicer, food mixer and induction hob and all cutlery, crockery and cookware you need. A huge scrubbed pine table provides plenty of dining space, and in the sitting area a TV/DVD/Radio and a small library of books, CDs and games are provided. There's a fridge/freezer and washing machine with full laundry facilities. The bedroom has a Victorian brass double bed with memory foam mattress, and for extra accommodation there's a double sofa bed in the sitting room. The Bathroom has a period roll-top bathtub with shower over, a Victorian style suite and heated towel rail. Outside, guests have their own private garden and patio with gas BBQ & wood-fired pizza oven overlooking the wooded valley with brook and waterfall. Guests are welcome to use the paddock/orchard area and to pick fruit and veg in season from the kitchen garden. Run on an enhanced self-catering basis, guests at The Apple Store will find home-made cakes awaiting them on arrival. There's the option of ordering home-made meals and buying local produce, fresh breads and cakes from the farmhouse too. Guests choosing an evening meal are offered a complimentary jug of local award-winning farmhouse cider to accompany. Pets are welcome - one dog stays free of charge. Great country for walking, wildlife or just enjoying the beautiful scenery and exploring the Forest of Dean, we're just 3 hours drive from London, 90 mins from Birmingham/Cardiff and Bristol. Gypsy Rose is a traditional bow-top wagon situated in the orchard about 20 yds from The Apple Store. Sleeps 2/3. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rent Gypsy Rose for and authentic Gypsy camping experience; get closer to Nature (and closer to your loved one!) with 2 nights in our beautiful 'vardo' caravan. Love wildlife? No need to sit in a cold 'hide' for hours - just sit up in bed and open the window for an unrivaled view of the waterfall. Watch for fish leaping, the flash of a kingfisher, the heron hoping for a snack, and if you're really lucky, otters playing. You'll be living the dream, cooking on open wood fires, lighting lanterns, foraging for fruit, veg and free-range eggs in the kitchen garden, orchard and Forest. Gypsy Rose has no electricity; you'll have candle lanterns and fuel for wood fires provided. Our only nod towards the 21st Century is provision of a proper mains flushing lavatory and clean tap water. NB The lead photograph shows the front of Maytree Cottage from the approach, NOT The Apple Store, which is on the lower ground floor level, beneath the main house. More

About the neighbourhood
On the side of a wooded valley, the south-facing gardens and orchard enjoy sunshine all day in fine weather, and dark starry skies at night. Secluded but not remote, the village of Blakeney is about a 10 minute walk and offers pubs, village shop and post office, chip shop and hairdressers. The Apple Store is located in the hamlet of Furnace Valley on the edge of the Forest of Dean, and has direct access to the Forest via footpaths and tracks. A haven for wildlife with a stream and waterfall forming the boundary, it's not unusual to see wild boar at dawn and dusk, bats, owls, herons, red kites and buzzards and even deer and otters amongst the many visitors to the garden. Nearby we have several heritage museums and places of interest, Norman castles, steam railways and opportunities to sa...
Getting around
