A feature of this property is its large garden (approx 0.5 acre) with duck pond, kitchen garden, orchard, paths, shrubs and flowers bordered by stream and waterfall, south-facing sun terrace and private garden patio with Pizza Oven, Gas BBQ and outdoor dining, play area including swings and swing-ball etc. Children welcome, dogs welcome. Not a holiday complex, this is a private apartment within the owners Victorian Farmhouse, ideal for couples and families. Be our Guests, not our customers. Afternoon Teas exclusively for Guests. We are delighted to offer Victorian-style teas in the Farmhouse or Garden. In Winter, toast muffins by the fire; in Summer sit out on the balcony overlooking the apple orchard and valley below. Enjoy a traditional English Afternoon Tea of home-made savouries, cakes, cream tea and sweets. Ask when you book! Please check availability with owner No extra charges for electricity, parking, bedding and linen, WiFi, use of BBQ and Pizza Oven, outdoor toys, parking etc. Fresh breads to your door daily at no extra charge. And 1 dog stays FREE! No nearby roads, very little traffic noise, a real garden; both The Apple Store and Gypsy Rose have their own private gardens, and share the orchard, lawn and kitchen garden. No gimmicks either; it's an authentic Victorian cottage and large garden. Secluded, not remote, The Apple Store is one of the few holiday cottages with a large garden and orchard, and away from noisy roads, shops and pubs. There's plenty of space to kick a ball, play on the swing and paddle in the brook, and give the dog a run. With direct access to the woods via footpaths and tracks, we've lots of lovely walks right on the doorstep for you and your 'best four-legged friend'. Ideal for weekends and short breaks for walkers, cyclists, nature-lovers and dog owners. In summer, pick your own fruit and veg from our kitchen garden, enjoy a BBQ on the patio or picnic by the brook, or simply chill...our south-facing garden enjoys plenty of sunshine all day long. Its a short walk from the house into the Forest where deer and wild boar roam free; a 10 minute stroll to Wenchford ponds, stream and BBQ area, and its about a mile from the house to Mallards Pike and Go Ape. The Dean Heritage Centre and Dean Forest Railway are a few minutes away by car, and Clearwell Caves, the Sculpture Trail, Puzzlewood and castles at Chepstow and Goodrich all within easy reach. The River Severn, famed for the Bore, salmon and wildlife is within walking distance, and The Wye Valley, with Symonds Yat and Tintern Abbey just 20 minutes drive away through the Forest.Regency Cheltenham, Roman Gloucester, Hereford, Tewkesbury, Abergavenny, Monmouth and the beautiful cities of Bath, Bristol and Cardiff are less than an hour's drive - all grand days out from The Apple Store. The village is a 10 minute walk away, where there's a Chip shop, pub and Italian restaurant/takeaway and small general store. Buses stop about 300 yards away, and for the energetic, a local bike-hire company will deliver and collect cycles to the door. The Apple Store is fully equipped for self-catering, with the electric Aga keeping the place cosy and warm in winter as well as being a fantastic cooker, and there's a microwave oven and induction hob too for summer months. Guests are welcome to pick their own fruit and veg from the garden, or take whatever is needed from the farm 'shop' - eggs, produce and fresh farmhouse baking are available daily on a donations basis. Don't want to shop or cook? Just ask and we'll get all you need of the best local ingredients for a full English breakfast and deliver to your door. The owners live in the adjoining farmhouse, and The Apple Store has its own private entrance, terrace and garden, sharing the orchard with the owners (and the ducks and hens!) The Apple Store apartment is on the ground floor of the 3-storey farmhouse; the main photo shows the upper 2 storeys of Maytree Cottage, which can be seen from the approach road. The terrace, parking area and garden are below Maytree Cottage; parking and covered area for storage, washing line etc are immediately outside The Apple Store, and there is a small area of garden on this level, with the orchard accessible via a sloping driveway to the valley floor. NB. The Apple Store can accommodate 4 adults; there is 1 double bedroom and a double sofa-bed in the sitting room. A travel cot and highchair are available. The Apple Store can be booked together with Gypsy Rose, our authentic gypsy caravan which sleeps 2/3 Large garden and orchard, ideal for children and pets. PYO fruit & veg in season, BBQ/outdoor kitchen & dining, farm-gate food on site. More

About the neighbourhood
Maytree Cottage, with The Apple Store, lies about a mile outside of the village of Blakeney - an ancient settlement dating back to Saxon times, now straddling the A48 between Gloucester and Chepstow. The village is about a 10 minute stroll away, where there's also a good Fish&Chip takeaway, an Italian restaurant, a country pub and restaurant, hairdresser, Post Office and small general store. Lydney, with several supermarkets, cash points etc is just 4 miles away. The Forest of Dean surrounds Maytree Cottage and is easily accessed via public footpaths, forestry tracks and single-track roads making the location ideal for dog-owners, walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts. Within minutes of leaving the door you can be in the Forest. Or head east down the lane and an easy walk across op...
Getting around
Although a car is recommended for getting out and about in the Forest of Dean the Forest is criss-crossed by quiet roads and a good network of dedicated cycle tracks. Bikes can be hired locally or ask and we'll get cycles delivered and collected for you. A local bus services run past attractions like Puzzlewood and the Dean Heritage Museum, and link the village of Blakeney to Gloucester and Chepstow. We can recommend local taxi services which will bring you, your dog and your cycles to The Apple Store - just ask!
