Very characterful, well equipped, comfortable cottage in a quaint hamlet. The owners communication was fast and helpful. Perfect location while we were visiting relatives and we will definitely stay again. Just be aware of the narrow, pot hole ridden road to get there - thankfully...More

About the neighbourhood
The nearest small town is Thornhill just 5 miles from Durisdeer. It has hotels and a pub and 2 small supermarkets. There are lots of small independent shops including bakers, butchers, hardware store and electrical suppliers. There is a cafe with fish and chips and several great places to eat. There is also a doctors surgery . Thornhill golf club just out of the village welcomes non-members and also has a great restaurant , the Green Tea Room. It is a lovely picturesque course with great views of Nithsdale.
A few miles north of Thornhill is the magnificent Drumlanrig Castle, home to the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. There are castle tours and beautiful gardens and well mapped walking routes around the estate. It has a great adventure play ground and play area. There are miles of map...

How to get there
From the south
M6 North to junction 26, for A75 Dumfries and Stranraer. Follow signs for Dumfries and continue on A75 on the Dumfries ring-road until the A76 Kilmarnock road. At the roundabout follow signs for A76 Kilmarnock. Continue north on the A76 through Thornhill to Carronbridge and then turn Right onto the A702 Edinburgh road. Continue for about 2 miles and turn left following the sign for Durisdeer.Continue over the cross-roads and into Durisdeer village .

From the North
M74 southbound to junction14, A702 Crawford and Thornhill. Follow this road through the Lowther Hills and the Dalveen pass. Continue through Durisdeer Mill to the sign for Durisdeer and turn left. Follow the road over the cross-roads and Durisdeer is ahead.
