About the neighbourhood
SUTTON-ON-THE-FOREST The village main street is picture postcard worthy so a stroll around the village especially in Summer months is highly recommended, although small there are several things for visitors to do and see. The walks through the village and surrounds are across mostly flat land but wind through fields, lanes and woods. In the heart of the village is The Rose & Crown Pub (mentioned on our 'Food & Drink' page), Miss Daisy's Tearoom, the playing fields and short woodland walk and Sutton Park a stately home owned by the Sheffield family (parents of Samantha Cameron). Sutton Park garden is open in the Summer for guided tours - please contact them directly to check dates and times. Il Paradiso on the Forest is on the outskirts
Getting around
We would recommend bringing or hiring a car to make the most of the area around Birch Tree Retreat. However, there is a bus stop outside of Birch House which will take you into York city centre or out to Easingwold a market town close by. Perfect if you're staying to have a day out at the races! The service is operated by Reliance Buses and the property is on Route 40, please visit their website for the current timetable.
