Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

So good that we booked ourselves in for August 2020 the minute we got back to the UK!
Keith and Julie are wonderful hosts. They live next door to the two properties and were there to welcome us and to show us round. They're very discreet - you wouldn't know they were there unless you need them, and they're also exceedingly friendly and more than happy to show you the barns, the owls, Keith's incredible bespoke handmade dolls house furniture (I want to be a doll so I can use it!) The accommodation itself is absolutely wonderful. I've stayed in many French holiday cottages, hotels and b&b's over the years and I'd safely say that this one is by far the best. It's second to none. It's fully equipped with every mod con you'd need - perfect if you want to cook for yourself, there's a super BBQ etc. The garden is similarly divine - big, with a table tennis table, soft archery (yes, I came home and bought myself a soft archery set...), boules and whatnot. It;'s set up for everyone from very young children to teens to adults - sun loungers, little places to sit and read, vine tomatoes growing up the walls which you can help yourself to, hedges laden with blackberries. The bedrooms are confortable - good sized beds, new mattresses etc. I have two children aged 13 and 10; they stayed in the top of the house and shared a room which has "the best bathroom I've ever seen, Mummy" (my daughter) The house next door was being used by a lady with two very young children. You couldn't hear a thing through the walls, and although her front door is close to the front door of the house we stayed in, we were hardly aware of her other than to say the occasional hello. We cycled most mornings to get croissants before it got too hot. It's a relatively easy cycle TO the patisserie, harder on the way back as it's up a long hill, but hving a few hours on the bike in the mornings was wonderful and we got to see the Limosin sunrises and the cattle. Traffic is negligable and the French are very sympathetic road users to cyclists. Wew spent a lot of time at the lake, swimming. It's within cycling distance but we drove there most days, and sometimes went to a different area on the lake to have handmake pizza and whatnot. We spent a week in the house - upon returning to the UK we did something I've never done before and booked our summer holiday for 2020 in the same place, but for 2 weeks this time. I sorted it out with Julie via WhatsApp in September. The children and my husband, and I, are so excited about returning. It was one of the best summer holidays we've ever had.

Thank you for such a wonderful review. It really makes me appreciate what we have; and how easy it could be to forget what a truly special little part of France we live in. This perfectly summarises my vision for every guests stay here. We look forward to seeing you all again later in the year and catching up. Until then, best wishes, Julie & Keith

About the neighbourhood
Rural France is perfect for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers; an ideal destination for families and couples seeking to embark on memorable adventures. Hire bikes or simply wander along quiet roads and meandering pathways, at every turn encountering an array of beautiful flora and fauna, little ponds and tiny hamlets. Just 3km from the gites, you’ll find a beautiful swimming lake; with two long sandy stretches and designated swimming areas. Both having their own little bistros open in the summer months. You can rent kayaks, paddle-boards, pedalos or small sail boards. If you're a fan of sightseeing there's so much to explore from chateau, quaint towns, ancient ruins and intriguing museums; plus weekly markets … a week is never enough!
Getting around
To fully embrace this charming destination, having a car is absolutely essential. Whilst our nearest town is just a quick 10-minute drive away; there are no shops or restaurants closer, which actually enhances the unique charm of the location. The good news is that most towns and tourist attractions provide free parking, making it convenient for you to explore the area at your leisure. Driving or cycling here is an absolute delight, with well-maintained roads and minimal traffic, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenic routes. If you're interested in exploring only local destinations, there is a fantastic bike rental company that deliver right to the doorstep. It's a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the beautiful countryside.

How to get there
It is just the two of us here, and our four cats who you will see running about the place no doubt causing mischief! We love walking, cycling and swimming in the summer; which is great because we are in the midst of one of the most beautiful areas of rural France. We are situated in the charming hamlet of La Besse, part of the Videix commune which lies on the borders of the Haute Vienne and the Charante. Here, you will discover calmness and tranquility with only a smattering of houses and rustic barns. From the front door you can simply step out onto one of the many sleepy lanes, and hidden paths that meander through the beautiful countryside, where you will be accompanied by only nature and wildlife. If you're wondering about your everyday essentials, just a quick 10-minute drive away you'll find the delightful town of Rochechouart. It's got everything you need including several bakeries, cozy cafes, charming small restaurants, handy supermarkets, a pharmacy and a convenient post office. Plus, a picturesque chateau that showcases contemporary art, a tiny museum dedicated to meteorites, and a charming church with twisted spire. Located approximately 50 minutes away by car, we are perfectly positioned between the historic cities of Angouleme and Limoges. Both cities offer excellent train connections and car rental services to the UK and Europe. If you're traveling by air, our closest airport is Limoges, just a short 40-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can easily reach us from Bordeaux, Bergerac, or Poitiers airports in around 2 hours. We hope to welcome you soon!
