Stunning views, perched above Gilsland village with private location on our 500 acre farm. The cottage dates back to 1600's, was a fortified dwelling, built in typical Bastle House style and has been painstakingly restored. Many original features, knarled oak beams, arrow slit windows, sark boarded ceilings & hayloft steps. Ideal for large families or groups wanting a central base for exploring Hadrian's Wall & peaceful Northumberland, with Roman sites just minutes away. Quiet peaceful location to help you relax & unwind. Perfect base for walking & cycling, with paths straight from the door....Stunning views, perched above Gilsland village with private location on our 500 acre farm. About the neighbourhood
The cottage is perched at the highest point on our 500 acre hill farm with stunning views across to the Lakeland Fells & Hadrian's Wall. There are walks straight from the door, and we are more than happy for our guests to explore the farm, and share our place. There are Roman sites in the village, which is 1.4 miles. In the village we have a delightful Pub with Bistro food, and a café with great coffee, snacks & cakes, and also where you can pick up supplies.
Getting around
The best way to see the sights would be exploring by car, this really gives you the freedom to explore the many Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall. The nearest train station would be Haltwhistle which is approx. 5miles, this can take you into Carlisle or Newcastle. We also have a Roman Wall bus AD122 which tours between Greenhead & Hexham, stopping at all the important Roman sites.
