Perfect house, perfect location!
We are a family of 9 adults and 6 children under 10 and we booked Tantalus in our search for a very special family get together after Christmas 2022. The house was perfect for us; roomy, well-equipped and, literally, on Brighton Beach. The online pictures and description are accurate and, if anything, undersell this large beachfront house.
JP and Heather are wonderful hosts; invisible but always available and quick to respond to our slightest need from receiving and unpacking our online grocery order through making sure we were well-supplied with ice.
Angela provided efficient daily maid service and JP arranged for their excellent cook, Shelly, to provide us with a healthy meal on our arrival and dinner on New Year's Eve.
The pool is large and the hot tub became the kids second home, conveniently located in the large deck area where they were easily watched by the adults. If you are a large group looking for a relaxed villa holiday on a beautiful sandy beach, Tantalus would be very hard to beat!

Incredible and well worth booking
Stunning villa literally on the beach. It has a lovely terrace area where you can walk down the steps to the immaculate pool area. From here you are within 5m of a the calm and tranquil Caribbean waters!
There are cleaners and maintenance professionals every day who also happen to be amazing people!
Talking of amazing people the owners who stay downstairs are probably the best hosts we’ve ever encountered! Friendly, helpful, full of great stories and with an attitude where you feel instantly at ease. It’s just like staying with friends!!
Location wise is perfect, right on a beach with a few bars and restaurants in walking distance. You can walk to a large super market but we recommend getting a car/taxi to the super market in holetown as it’s larger and better priced.
We really were blown away by the whole experience. JP and Heather are immense hosts.

5 Star, Incredible, Highly recommend!
This property is incredible and I can’t wait to re book. Myself and 9 friends (plus 2 babies) booked this villas for New Years and it was perfect.
The owners made us feel extremely welcome and helped with our PCR tests so we wouldn’t have to quarantine for too long. They recommended local restaurants and things to do. Even sorted out a fire two evenings for us. These hosts went above and below!
All the bedrooms are a very good size, comfy beds and clean. However the master bedroom is something else with breath taking views of the sea and beach so you wake up hearing the sea. The pool is lovely and there is a gate to the beach. The community areas were huge so everyone was able to eat meals together and we had some brilliant BBQs.
The location is great you have a bar and restaurant in a short walking distance. If you like long walk you are able to walk to Sandy Lane, Holetown and Bridgetown. Even a rum distillery within a 10 minute walk!
Overview this property ticked all the boxes! Great location, lovely owners, amazing facilities for everything and right on the beach!

Tantalising Tantalus
We stayed in the top villa a huge six bedroom maisonette. Well situated on the quiet Brighton beach, in barbados. All the beds have comfortable mattresses and pillows as a regular traveller this is normally a problem. The house is designed to ventilate really well so we only needed the assistance of the celling fans to stay cool at night.
I. Was confused at first about the photos when we booked, but there are six rooms on two levels in the upper apartment. With two outdoor viewing areas. There is private access to the beach. Everything worked, a nice surprise for a seasoned traveller. JP is a great host, the staff employed by the owner are really friendly also.
I thought there would be a catch, but it really is a great place.

Thanks for review, we know we have an exceptional spot on a fantastic beach. The house is really set up well to enjoy whether you are a small family or a larger get together. With a small family group, I am sure you felt spoiled by the size of the home and the amenities it comes with. We do include a friendly cleaning staff which is a welcome and pleasant surprise to so many who rent just an empty house. We operate on the concept that everyone coming wants to have a holiday and not fuss with keeping a place clean.

Amazing House on a beautiful beach
If having your sundowner drink while swimming right outside your house is your thing, this place is for you! The beach is amazing! The room all have dedicated bathrooms, and the view from the master suite is second to none!

Great home away from home.
The Villa was stunning. The view is amazing, the House is great, with a great kitchen. We had 13 people staying and had some wonderful meals around the great outdoor table. The staff were friendly, great and a wealth of local knowledge. The Island and people are wonderful and welcoming. Roads were not the best but the other drivers are super friendly, accommodating and courteous.

Rocket Dog II - Barbados Sailing Week
Myself and 12 other "crew" stayed at Tantalus during Barbados Sailing Week 2019. The reception from our hosts was exceptional. The hospitality from JP and HHJ was far beyond our expectations, and continued throughout or 10/12 day stay. The accommodations were impeccable and maintained on a daily basis whilst we were off sailing....everything was taken care of, and it was a real home away from home experience. JP and HHJ are the kind of people (not just hosts) that will go on my "GOOD PEOPLE" list.
The location speaks for itself, and the property takes full advantage of this. A 20 minute walk to Bridgetown, 20 second walk to the pool, 30 second walk to the beach........I will return,.....as I am sure many of my crew will as well !!

About the neighbourhood
Brighton Beach is one of the finest beaches in Barbados. White sands with a 2 mile stretch for walking, jogging or beach combing. Great swimming in brilliant aquamarine seas.
Getting around
Visitors are recommended to hire a car or take taxis to avoid the chance of walking unwittingly through a bad area. While the island is very safe by international standards, it is not crime-free and visitors should take precautions that they would in any large city.

How to get there
This location is just north of the capital city, Bridgetown, and is the first stretch of west coast beach (think calm Caribbean waters). Very strategically located between the upscale west coast restaurants and beach bars and the popular night life in the south coast. An easy drive to supermarkets, attractions and within walking distance of the home of West Indies cricket, Kensington Oval.
Taxis are in abundance and the Villa is easy to find with your rental car and the latest navigation apps. The bus stop is about a 15 min walk for those taking the local public transportation. There is a large supermarket less than 5 minutes drive and it is also close (walking distance) to the University of the West Indies (UWI).
