Paradise!

Vieques is a beautiful place to visit! My boyfriend and I rented the casita azul and were happy with our choice. This quaint little house is the perfect place to stay on a romantic vacation and it's equipped with all the amenities needed for a multiple day getaway. We were pleased to find a fully stocked kitchen (Coffee maker, blender, toaster...), a variety of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, bar soap,...), beach chairs... well, let's just say everything you need for a comfortable vacation. The common outdoor spaces-pool and BBQ- were well maintained and an enjoyable place to relax. The breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and natural vegetation can be seen from almost every angle of the property. This little oasis is located close to beaches ( their's a hiking trail from the house that takes you to a black sand beach!) and the malecon- where you can find delicious food and enjoy a frozen concoction while watching the sunset! We had a wonderful time at the Oreanda residence. We can't thank the owners and property manager enough for a memorable vacation!

So much better in the photos...

First of all, the manager meets you in town and drives you out to the casita. Upon arrival it's a bit of a walk to Casita Azul, which is a decent sized studio. What you can't see in the photos are the ants in the bathroom, the stained and molding couch (which made me wonder about the bed), the heat (no a/c and no trade winds that day) and the shower. Shower, did you say shower? By the way, where is it? Yes, outside, down two flights of stairs and open to the elements under the house. No, an outdoor shower is one thing, but one that requires a hike to get to, while being chased by mosquitos, is a whole other type of experience which I do not want to pay for on vacation. At $175 it is really over priced, at $100 it might begin to seem more reasonable. They let us cancel our reservation and luckily I found another hotel room back at Casa Amistad (which I really enjoyed staying at).

About the neighbourhood

Located on a quiet hillside just a mile from Esperanza. Enjoy the peaceful and relaxing retreat, with convenient access to some of the best beaches as well as great restaurants, bars, and shops.

Getting around

For anyone visiting Vieques we do highly recommend getting a Jeep or SUV to get to the most amazing beaches on the island - many of which you cannot access without a vehicle. Cars have a tendency to sell out in advance, so we encourage getting one reserved well in advance of your vacation.

How to get there

We recommend flying to the island from mainland Puerto Rico as the ferry can be unreliable and we want guests to have a smooth vacation. Most travelers fly into San Juan International (SJU) and there are two main airlines that fly direct from SJU to Vieques - Cape Air and Vieques Air Link / Seaborne Airlines. Or there are two regional airports (San Juan Isla Grande & Ceiba Airports) - check out Vieques Air Link. We provide complementary meetup at your rental car location to show you the way to Casita Azul. Rental car companies provide shuttles from the airport or ferry to their rental location. We highly recommend renting a vehicle to just about anyone visiting Vieques as the most amazing beaches are located in reserve areas where there is no residential development. Some of the roads to the beaches can get very bumpy - an SUV is preferable!
