(Highchair, travel cot, stairgates, fireguard and baby changing area provided - suitable ages 0- (fit) 99yr olds. Front door opens onto south facing sheltered raised decking with outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the peace, fresh country air and panoramic views. Large garden ground at front and wooded back garden leading to woodland walks in the birch and pine forest. Many outdoor activities within easy reach - walking, hill climbing, golf, cycling, fishing, shooting, sight seeing and so much more. Something different to do each day. Sutherland has many pretty villages and spectacular beaches, with the nearest beach 8 miles to the east of Oulu lodge at the small town of Golspie, which also has many tourist attractions and fully equipped gym with swimming pool. Rogart is uniquely located from where to drive to each scottish coast: the local east coast, the farthest north coast where ferry available to Orkney and the amazing west highlands and islands. Nearest city/airport is Inverness which is an hours drive south of Oulu. More

This is a shared family home therefore unsuitable for hen/stag groups, those looking for private self catering, drinking parties or catered trips. You are welcome to use facilities to cook meals, make hot drinks and relax by the living area wood stove. Although all ages welcome, the walk up driveway and indoor stairs are not suitable if you have a disability that would cause problems with this. Also, nb, a car or bicycle is needed due to rural location. There are buses but only occasional.

We are Irene and Graham, we have retired from nhs in Aberdeen to live here. We decided to rent out the 2 spare rooms, hostel style for travelling tourists and backpackers looking for a reasonable cost stopover, (Our cost £30 per night per adult person, no cost for under 12yr old). We love the Highlands and want to be able to have others experience this amazing part of the world. AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: This is shared accommodation with own room and shared kitchen/living area. It is NOT private self catering that we are offering, unless we are away from home - see alternative listing..

Beautiful location great accommodation and fantastic friendly hosts, five stars in every box.

About the neighbourhood
Oulu is 8 miles from Golspie, a lovely little east coast seaside town with all amenities. There you will find beautiful walks including Ben Bragghie which also has the best mountain biking tracks, beautiful beach and woodlands, the incredible Dunrobin Castle as well as local distilleries. We are 10 miles from Dornoch, a very special old town with cathedral, amazing beach and world famous links golf course. The road to the west coast is absolutely stunning, with surreal colourful sunsets, rugged rocky heather mountains sometimes awash with yellow gorse. Travel to the north coast for more beautiful barren land, wildlife and wandering sheep - cross over by ferry viewing dolphins to Orkney Islands for incredible archeological paradise.
Getting around
Buses and trains are available from local villages but car is essential to get from the Lodge to the nearest village (Pittentrail) and also if you are doing sightseeing, hiking, golf, distilleries etc. We find many tourists are travelling by bicycle or motorbike. The highland railways have stunning views but rail travel is slow due to having to go around the many estuaries and inlets.
