Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Fantastic place for a weekend gettaway.
A really lovely place. We came as a family for New Year 2024. The cottage is cosy and friendly, and close to nice pubs and the beach (15 min walk). I liked the nice touches of books, boardgames and DVDs - I read one of the novels and saw a movie i hadn't come across before. The place was spotless. We will surely return at some point.

Cosy, comfortable cottage in a perfect location.
Snowdrop Cottage is in a great location. It is in the middle of the village and a ten-minute stroll away from the amazing beach at Embleton Bay. Walk south past Dunstanburgh Castle to Craster where a delicious kipper bun awaits, or stroll north along the beach to Low Newton for a pint at The Ship Inn. There are plenty of places to visit by car - Seahouses, Bamburgh, Holy Island, Alnmouth and Amble, or further inland to Alnwick or the Arts and Crafts N.T. property Cragside. Route 1 can be explored by cyclists; the roads are quiet and mostly flat. The cottage is one of three in this row and we have stayed on several occasions at different times in the year. It is well-decorated, always immaculately clean and has everything you need for a perfect stay. The kitchen is well-equipped, there's a good shower in the bathroom and the living area has a tv, dvds, radio, books and games for wetter days. The garden sunspot is a great place to have breakfast al fresco. The hire cost is also very reasonable. Cost Rereats staff are swift to reply to emails and go out of their way to be helpful. Booking is easy and dealt with quickly and efficiently. We love this spot and plan to return as often as we can.

Great little cottage with everything you could need
Walked in to a lovely clean house beautiful little enclosed yard milk in the fridge tea coffee and even a tin of dog biscuits but we had all of these. The beds were good and comfy the pillows wonderful as I usually take my own. There was everything ,washing up liquid , bin bags and plenty of hanwash. Lots of pots and pans if you wanted to cook and right next to the hotel where we had a good Sunday Lunch would go back in a heartbeat.

Family holiday
Lovely holiday location near to the beach and local attractions. Brilliant base for exploring Northumberland. Small house but sufficient for our needs and a secure enclosed garden for our dog.

IDEAL BASE TO EXPLORE FROM
This was our first stay in Northumberland and this cottage was recommended by friends. On arrival you get your own private parking space adjacent to the Hotel and there is an enclosed yard to the front of the cottage, ideal for the dog. Inside the cottage is spacious, fully furnished just like a home from home and the surrounding area is quiet. Embleton is a small quaint village and an ideal location from which to explore Northumberland. A 5-10 minute walk through the golf club and sand dunes leads onto a vast expanse of beaches in both directions, a recommended walk would be down to Dunstanburgh Castle and on to Crastor. This has definitely wet our appetite to return to the area and would use this cottage again if we decided to again stay at Embleton.

Perfect cottage, perfect village, perfect stay
Snowdrop Cottage - lovely and quaint; comfortable; everywhere immaculately clean. Everything you need in the kitchen (and more besides!) for a self catering cottage. The village of Embleton is a delight - well stocked local store (1 min walk from cottage) plus two VERY local pubs (30 seconds, 5 minute walk respectively!). Both roaring log fires, cracking ale (tried a lot) and from what we could see, good honest pub fayre (didn’t have time to eat here though however). Short walk out of village and over dunes to award winning Embleton Bay beach - bit of a hidden gem. Fantastic views of Dunstanburgh Castle and the walk to explore the old ruins are well worth it. Surrounding areas are in perfect location for a few quintessential Northumberland day trips; Bamburgh, Craster, Alnwick to name a few. The Jolly Fisherman pub in Craster is an absolute most for a meal out in these parts. One other recommendation (bit more random) if you like your gin then the Alnwick Gin Distillery is a short distance away from Embleton (Google Map job to find it). Whilst they do not have an official shop if you ring the doorbell on the outside of the distillery they will come and let you in and have a look around their stock warehouse whilst giving you a good tour of the place. Special selections of tonic water to choose from as well. All in all location and the cottage itself were tip top. John from Cosy Cottages was really helpful and his communication throughout booking process made us extra sure and confident we would be having a great stay even before we’d left home. 10/10 would recommend. Disclosure: I should probs say I did propose to my now fiancé on a deserted Embleton Bay beach... but I promise this is not a review written through rose tinted spectacles! Really did make the perfect moment all the more special. We will be back!

Snowdrop Cottage, Embleton
What a beautiful gem of a cottage! The cottage was immaculate when we arrived, warm and welcoming, with the essentials you need after a long car journey. Our French Bulldog loved it too! Booking of the cottage was seamless, and all questions were answered promptly by the owner. The cottage is perfectly situated to access the beautiful coast and walks that surround Embleton. We will definitely returning again!

About the neighbourhood
The village of Embleton is one of Northumberland's true gems. Why not try the wonderfully traditional village pub - The Greys Inn, or try out the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel, which shares the courtyard with Snowdrop Cottage. The award winning Embleton Bay is a ten minute stroll away, with its beautiful sandy beach that seems to stretch for miles. Just before you reach the dunes you'll see Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, which boasts a traditional 18 hole links course with views that simply cannot be beaten. There is also a bar and restaurant in the club which are open to the public. The village has a small shop and post office and for the younger ones there is a delightful, well-equipped and modern play area in the village. Such is the beauty of the location of this lovely village, there is much that can be done without going anywhere near your car. A gentle stroll up the coast will bring you to the delightful village of Low Newton with its renowned pub, The Ship Inn (which has its own microbrewery!) and picturesque bay. To the south of Embleton it is just a short stroll to the magnificient ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and continuing past you will soon arrive in the village of Craster, with its harbour and world famous kippers!
