Downstairs the cottage has an attractive open-plan living space, with lounge, kitchen and dining area. The lounge includes a large sofa and two comfortable chairs, 32' flat-screen TV with DVD and Freeview, an i-Pod docking station, CD player/radio and a selection of books, games and DVDs for those cosy evenings in. The modern kitchen includes an electric hob, grill and oven, a fridge with a freezing compartment as well as a microcwave, toaster, kettle, cafetiere and tea, coffee and milk to welcome you at your journey's end. You will also find it is well stocked with cooking equipment and utensils. The dining area seats four comfortably at a traditional wooden dining table. The cottage also benefits from high-speed fibre broadband, perfect for keeping the kids entertained, if you have a little work to catch up on while you're away or just sharing photos of our beautiful county with friends and family! There is also a spin dryer for guests to use. Upstairs the cottage has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each with a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The bathroom has a bath with electric shower over, WC and wash basin. Outside, the cottage opens up on to an L-shaped, south-facing patio area. There is a sturdy wooden bench as well as a picnic table and the area is fully enclosed to keep your little companions (two or four legged!) contained. There are two allocated parking spaces directly outside the cottage. The heating in the cottage is by means of electric heaters in each room, the cost of which, as well as the provision of linen and towels, is included in the price. A travel cot and high chair are also available in the cottage, should you require them. The owners of Periwinkle Cottage are always happy to welcome well behaved dogs with responsible owners. We would ask that you bring your own throws/blankets if you would like to have your four-legged friends on the sofa for cuddles! Please note Periwinkle Cottage is available for short breaks all year round EXCEPT the May half term and summer school holidays.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Wonderful Northumberland Cottage
Second holiday stay at Periwinkle Cottage and will definitely be back. It had everything we needed including own parking and outside space to relax . Cottage sparkling clean. Perfect village location with hotel and 2 pubs within walking distance and lovely well-stocked village shop. Superb beach 15 min walk and Dunstanburgh Golf club which serves lovely lunches. Fantastic beach walks from Low Newton to Craster. Great to use as base to explore beautiful Northumberland countryside beaches and castles. Can't praise this place enough.

May in Embleton
We had a lovely stay in periwinkle cottage. The location is perfect for exploring the Northumberland coast and nearby villages and towns. Embleton itself is interesting historically and boasts a well stocked shop and three pubs within five minutes walk. There's also a nature reserve formed from a former quarry with swans and other wildlife in abundance. The nearest beach is about a mile away just beyond the golf course; a further mile along the beach and reward yourself with a pint at the Ship Inn. I'll end with a tip: if you visit Alnwick and park behind the playhouse on greenwell road, pop into the playhouse to buy a parking ticket - they're one pound and required for parking in Alnwick.

Periwinkle Cottage
We have just returned from a week's holiday in this perfect little cottage.John, the owner, was so helpful & communicative from the start of booking, until our arrival. The cottage was beautifully clean, everything we needed,a lovely area to three sides to find the sun wherever it went! We had breakfast outside every morning,in our private space & as the weather was so lovely it was as if we were abroad! The situation of the cottage is so handy, pubs,a couple of little shops, beach, although a decent walk away, worth finding. We definitely will be back,I would fully recommend a holiday here.

Lovely Cottage in Great Location
Has a 3 nights stay with four adults and the cottage had everything we needed and was scrupulously clean. It has all the facilities mentioned and great eating facilities very close by at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel , Grey's Inn and the Blue Bell Inn. Location and host were perfect!

Lovely accommodation in good location
The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. Communication when booking was excellent. We also had to call John a couple of times when we were there but he was very helpful and talked us through what we needed to do. The little courtyard garden was lovely but we were unable to make use of it due to the weather. I'd definitely recommend Cosy Cottages and if we are ever in the area I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again.

Cosy Retreat
It does what it says on the tin . Cosy retreat. We stayed in February 2022 but the place was warm and cosy . One of 4 cottages in a row in a small courtyard off the main road (no noise from traffic ) This one has two car parking spaces outside the cottage. You are just a stone's throw from the front door of the Dunstonborough castle hotel (Handy for a pint and a good Sunday lunch. also dog friendly) No need to think about taking along the kitchen sink as everything is provided.Tea towels/washing up liquid. salt /pepper tin foil etc. Good communication with John. (He text me to say we could gain access any time as the cottage was not occupied the day before and he had prepared it for us (Very clean and tidy) He also said that the previous occupier informed him that the bottom oven element was not working so he had an Electrician fix it (Issues sorted very fast)Thanks, John. Would recommend and return again.

Perfect dog-friendly cottage near the best beach
We absolutely loved our stay at Periwinkle over the new year. Excellent location in Embleton and short walk to the beach. The cottage itself is cosy and private with a paved/stoney courtyard which was ideal for the dog to potter about in securely. All the things in the kitchen we needed for a week's stay. John's communication was excellent before and after the stay. We are looking forward to booking again in the future! Tom & Bekah (+ Norman)

Perfect location
Periwinkle Cottage is great and perfectly located to see the beautiful Northumberland coast. 10 minutes gets you to the A1, 50 minutes to Berwick. The beach is huge, gorgeous and an easy walk from the cottage. Village has 2 pubs and 2 shops so easy to get those things you forgot to bring. Greys Inn is very friendly, we left with 2 free bottles of beer from the barman on our 1st visit. A walk to Craster well worth it, looking forward to the freshly smoked kippers. Boat trip to Farne was great. The owner messaged the day of our arrival saying everything was ready and we could arrive early if we wanted. Inside the house is clean, comfortable and has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Fantastic cottage
We have stayed at Periwinkle Cottage for 5 nights. Our first visit to Northumberland with our 2 dogs. The cottage is in the perfect location for exploring the local area. A lovely walk to Embleton Bay and a short drive to Craster, Seahouses and the beautiful beach at Beadnell Bay, amongst other places we didn’t get to visit! There is a shop within a couple of minutes walk and the fab Greys Inn which serves fantastic food and drinks. The cottage is lovely, perfect for us, home from home. We will definitely be back.

About the neighbourhood
The village of Embleton is one of Northumberland's true gems. Why not try the wonderfully traditional village pub - The Greys Inn, or try out the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel, which shares the courtyard with Periwinkle Cottage. The award winning Embleton Bay is a ten minute stroll away, with its beautiful sandy beach that seems to stretch for miles. Just before you reach the dunes you'll see Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, which boasts a traditional 18 hole links course with views that simply cannot be beaten. There is also a bar and restaurant in the club which are open to the public. The village has a small shop and post office and for the younger ones there is a delightful, well-equipped and modern play area in the village. Such is the beauty of the location of this lovely village, there is much that can be done without going anywhere near your car. A gentle stroll up the coast will bring you to the delightful village of Low Newton with its renowned pub, The Ship Inn (which has its own microbrewery!) and picturesque bay. To the south of Embleton it is just a short stroll to the magnificient ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and continuing past you will soon arrive in the village of Craster, with its harbour and world famous kippers!
