Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Comfortable dog friendly accommodation in a great location
No.1 Police Cottages was very spacious for 2 of us. The king sized bed was very comfortable, and the cottage was well equipped. We enjoyed sitting outside on the bench, looking over field next to church. As the garden was not enclosed, we found the nearby Embleton Quarry nature reserve an ideal place to walk the dogs off lead. We enjoyed visits to Farne Islands by boat, Bamburgh beach to see the Eiders, Craster for an evening walk to Dunstanburgh Castle, and Newton on Sea for the lovely pub by the beach. And of course, on your doorstep is the hotel/pub if required. Credit must be given to the owners for not increasing their prices after lockdown, as this was a roll-over holiday, all at the same price as before.

Second time this year - still as good.
This is a great hotel with friendly staff. Yet again we stayed in one of the Police Houses cottages. Good space and well equipped. Very comfortable and super sized beds. We love Northumberland and its amazing beaches. Down to the beach in 5 minutes and you can walk to Low Newton and The Ship Inn or go the other way to Craster and the Jolly Fisherman. Can't decide who has the best crab sandwiches! We will return.

Superb accommodation, perfect location.
This is the second time we've stayed at Dunstanburgh Castle hotel cottages - we have stayed at the Rose cottages and this time we stayed at the Police cottages with friends. It was absolutely immaculate, really quiet and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Short walk to the beach across the golf course and within 20 minutes of loads to do - Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle, Alnwick and an amazing walk along the coast to Craster and Dunstanburgh Castle. Gorgeous quiet beach very nearby. We will definitely be back again and I would highly recommend these holiday cottages to anyone!

Poor information
As much as I would have loved my family to have stayed in 2 of these cottages, the information regarding the fact that both cottages sleep 8 is misleading. The price quoted was increased as I had requested 5 people to stay and they had to put a pull up bed in?? if the cottages do not sleep 8 then they should be advertised as to the amount of people they sleep officially and then advised more can fit in for an extra price. I am totally gutted that this was not conveyed prior to my request being put in as theses cottages were in close proximity to the venue that we are to attend a wedding

Dear Guest I appreciate that the cottages are described as sleeping up to 8 they are however always set for the number you book and unless its 8 they are never set for this number. you are given the opportunity to add your own sofa bed (not pull up bed) at the time of enquiring, which you did not which left us with no choice but to add it for you, we do not ever hide our charges and whilst clearly this affected your decision to book for the extra £30 I am not sure it warranted this comment. Visit to Northumberland
Stayed at the Police house cottages in April. Excellent cottage two bed both with bathrooms and large double beds. Large open plan lounge kitchen diner. No log fire which was a shame but very good. 2 parking spaces outside the door. Had evening meal at hotel which was good. Close to beach and beautiful bit of coast. Would thoroughly recommend.

Well located comfortable cottage
Comfortable, homely, self-catering cottage in Embleton in great location for the lovely coastal walks nearby. The cottage is very well equipped with everything we needed and is very peaceful. The village shop is a real bonus too. Would definitely stay here again.

The Old Police House
Grand spot for a weekend away with 6 adults, 1 baby and 1 dog. We stayed in the Police House for 3 days and really enjoyed it – especially enjoyed sitting round the kitchen table in the kitchen tailor made for group gathering away. Unfortunately, the weather was too mild to really make use of the log burner, but that does add character to the place, plus the bedrooms are all a good size and our bed in the en-suite room was huge. A comfortable, well- appointed cottage in easy reach of all the numerous local attractions - we've visited Embleton and its environs many times whilst staying in the area, but it was lovely to be in the middle as it’s a pleasant little village and the cottage is lovely. Plus there is a well stocked shop 100 yards down the road for any provisions you may have forgotten. As alluded to in previous comments, a word of warning on the parking – we used two spaces as instructed and chose the two obvious ones closest to the front of the Police House, avoiding the side areas as these were being used by the village and hotel. Unfortunately our first evening was rather spoilt by the insolent, ill-mannered and impolite behaviour of the member of staff from the Dunstanburgh hotel, who came across to demand , in a very abrupt and completely unnecessarily discourteous manner (as if we had repeatedly ignored some previous, non-existent instructions) that we move our cars to the side. In the event, due to the other cars parked there already, we had to leave one at the front. Rather a shame, as the rest of the hotel staff were brilliant, helpful and very professional; we were planning on eating at the hotel on at least one of the nights, but changed our minds as a result and ate elsewhere. I was informed later that this was in fact the hotel manager - I dread to think how he behaves with his staff if this is his manner with customers!

Lovely 4 Nights at Number 1
Four of us stayed at one of the Police Cottages after experiencing 'Dune' earlier in the year. Check-in was quick and we had a round of drinks in the comfortable hotel lounge as we had arrived a tad early. The Cottage was clean and tidy and both bedrooms are identical with the added benefit of en-suite bathrooms. The whole property was lovely and warm and the open plan kitchen and living room was more than ample for my wife and I, together with my eldery parents to sit back and relax after hearty meals across in the hotel bar and round the corner at The Greys Inn. My only negative points of observation were that the showers were in a slightly awkward position above the bath and could I suggest that the two parking bays per cottage are identified in some way? The residents in the Police House had 4 vehicles and were occupying one of the spaces for the three cottages. Might have posed a problem if the whole set of properties had been full. That said, I would highly recommend this accomodation and my mum left with great memories...which was the entire object if the exercise. Thank You Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel.

Dear Dan We would firstly like to thank you for the time you have taken to write and post your review of the Police House cottage at The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel. We are always grateful for our guest’s comments and are continually striving to improve. I understand your concern about the number of cars some cottages had during your stay, we always tell guests that there are only two spaces per cottage with any extra needing to be parked at the hotel, but trust it did not spoil your enjoyment too much. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit with us and hope to see you again very soon. George Knight-General Manager - Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel

Excellent cottage, well equipped and great location! Pet friendly.
The Old Police House. This cottage is the best we have stayed in, the furnishings and decor were first class, the kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly want. The added bonus was the hotel being just over the road, they did a take away service and we also went across for dinner. The food in the hotel was outstanding and the staff were very helpful. My husband had a senior moment with the kettle and unfortuanately broke it, the staff were great asking if he was ok. Plenty of walks in the area to Craster one way and Newton by the Sea the other way, we will definitely be returning and if we could give this cottage 6 stars we would.
