Morwenstow, Cornwall, England
A detached, 'upside down' cottage with superb sea views down Morwenstow combe, converted from stables in a quiet spot at the top of the long drive to the large well-kept gardens of the old vicarage, built by Reverend Hawker (who famously introduced Harvest Festivals and help for shipwrecked mariners); the vicarage's chimneys are models of towers of churches he knew. Footpath to the coast. Excellent seasonal tea rooms at the top of the drive and ¼ mile to a good food pub. In front of the cottage is your own garden (church fête held here and in vicarage gardens on 6 Aug). Three stone steps up to entrance. Slate-floored hall. Downstairs twin bedroom (TV) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath) and French windows to footpath. The friendly owner Gill, who runs an excellent bed and breakfast from the same site, greeted us. She had provided a plate of delicious homemade scones, jam and clotted cream, a lovely touch. All three bedrooms were very comfortable, and at the end of the day there was enough hot water for us all to shower/bath. A big consideration when walking the S.W. coastal path. The whole area was magical, especially with all the primroses and daffodils in full bloom. The sitting /dining room was comfortable with a lovely view over the sea. We had no trouble parking - and at times we had four cars between the six of us. It was great to be able to walk to "The Bush" for our evening meal.
