We had a peaceful break at Ferry Cottage. It has a good location and parking. Plenty of space, I loved sitting in the conservatory listening to the bird song in the garden. Interesting historic village, castle and church. Nice walks, boat trips, local shops and pubs. The housekeeper was very helpful with a couple of issues, very friendly. Would recommend.

And relax… best place for the best Suffolk holiday
We had another stay at this gorgeous house this summer and it did not disappoint. It gives you a sense of calm and relaxation the moment you walk in the door. We ate all our meals in the large, gorgeous garden - there is a village shop, fresh fish sold on the quay and Pinney’s shop which is just over the road (sells amazing fish like smoked salmon, smoked prawns and Pates). The house is situated right next to the quay and close to one of the 3 Orford pubs which all serve great food. We got into the routine of a lovely walk along the sea wall, coffee and croissants from the Pump Street Bakery, lunch in the house’s lovely garden then dinner at one of the pubs. We spent the rest of the evening in the sitting room watching tv, playing games in the dining room or reading in the conservatory - the WiFi keep the teenagers happy too. Our favourite moment this holiday was seeing a young seal on one of our walks in the mud in the sunshine. It turned around to look at us and looked like it was smiling. That’s how we feel when we stay at Ferry Cottage - we smile all week.

We have had an excellent week in Ferry cottage
This is a great location. We have been on some lovely coastal walks, visited seaside towns. Orford is a very pretty village with its castle as it’s crowning glory.
The cottage has everything we needed and more. We have been extremely lucky with the weather and have made lots of use of the lovely garden here.
Everything works, beds are comfy, great kitchen, what more could there be!

Amazing location for this comfortable cosy cottage
We had a wonderful time staying at Ferry Cottage with my family of 2 adults and teenagers. The house has possibly the best location in the village of Orford being so close to the quay, Jolly Sailor pub and Riverside Tearooms. It is also just opposite Pinneys shop for amazing fish, smoked salmon, prawns and pates perfect for lunches or pre dinner nibbles in the cottage’s lovely big garden.
The house was a great size for our family with its cosy sitting room, large conservatory, dining room which comfortably sits at least 8 and kitchen. Upstairs the three bedrooms were very comfortable with lots of space for clothes etc and there is a separate shower room and bathroom which suited us perfectly. We were lucky enough with the weather to spend lots of time in the lovely garden.
There is so much to do in Orford itself with hot chocolates at the Riverside cafe, crabbing off the quay, meals out at The Jolly Sailor pub with its large garden, The Crown and Castle, The Butley Oysterage or The Kings Head. Coffees, croissants and delicious breads from the Pump St Bakery, visiting Orford Castle and walks along the sea wall. We also enjoyed our trips to Aldeburgh, Southwold and Framlingham.
We could not recommend a visit to Ferry Cottage highly enough.

Perfect house in picturesque village
We had a wonderful time at Ferry Cottage. Orford is such a beautiful village and the house is in the perfect spot to explore it - close to the harbour, easy for riverside walks, a stroll to the coffee shop, bakery, restaurants and pubs. The garden was lovely on the warmer evenings and the conservatory was perfect on the rainy day. We’ll definitely be back

Perfect cottage in the perfect Suffolk village
Ferry Cottage is absolutely perfect! It has one of the best positions in Orford - less than thirty seconds to the water and to the pub!
The cottage has everything you need for a brilliant family holiday. It is spacious, beautifully clean and thoughtfully equipped throughout. The kitchen is perfect for those that love to cook and the dining room is ideal for large family meals and entertaining. I’m the morning the huge conservatory is filled with light and the perfect place to enjoy a sun-kissed breakfast; come evening relaxing in the living room in front of the open fire is the perfect way to end the day. The large garden is beautifully kept and perfect for boozy afternoons and BBQs.
Orford is an incredibly special place. There is without doubt magic in the air. After spending time here you come to realise the tales of the Orford Merman might have some truth to them after all.
Nature lovers will not want to leave. A five minute stroll from the cottage can reward you with Marsh Harriers, Avocets, Stonechats, Skylarks and Wheaters and the famous Orford Hares (some of the largest in the country and reputed by some to be a separate sub-species). I am sure there will be Turtle Doves somewhere nearby as well, but they remained elusive. Serious birders will want to head to Havergate Island where an abundance of bird life can to be spotted including Sandwich Terns, Pintail and Short-Eared Owls depending on the season.
One of the most magic things about Orford are the Barn Owls. Head right along the river path towards Havergate Island around dusk and you more likely than not will be rewarded with fantastic views of them hunting low over the fields.
Foodies will also love Orford. It has two fantastic pubs for high quality pub grub and delicious Adnams beer; a superb fine dining restaurant, The Crown & Castle; brilliant fish restaurant The Oysterage; Pinney’s, Suffolk’s renowned fishmonger and smoke house (it is so close you can read the chalkboard announcing the daily catch from the cottage’s garden); Pump House bakery selling amazing bread and cakes and last but not least, Orford General Stores - which has to be one of the best village shops in the whole of the UK.
Chrissie and David are fantastic hosts, and housekeeper Angie could not have made us feel more welcome.
Orford is an incredible place. And Ferry Cottage is undoubtedly one of the best places to explore it from. We could not recommend highly enough. We look forward to returning for many years to come.

A lovely spot for a family break
We have actually visited Ferry Cottage many times and we absolutely love it. In terms of location - you can’t beat it, it’s central for the river, cafes, pubs and restaurants of the charming village.
The cottage has a good sized garden too with plenty of space for children to play.
The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable, we are a big family and there is room for everyone, even on a rainy day (of which there have been very few!).
The hosts, Chrissie and David are amazing, a pleasure to deal with.
HIGHLY recommend Ferry Cottage!

Superb cottage in a lovely village
We spent a weekend at Ferry Cottage in Orford and couldn't recommend it enough. The cottage is lovely, spacious with a large conservatory and garden just a stone throw's away from the beach. It has all the mod cons, including a large TV and broadband, very comfortable beds, it's very clean and it's dog friendly too (we were even left towels and poo bags for our dog on arrival). The owner is friendly and very helpful and we couldn't have hoped for a better stay. Highly recommended.

One of my favourite places
Not only is Orford one of those unique, atmospheric and memorable coastal villages but Ferry Cottage is the perfect place from which to enjoy it. Situated a stones throw from the water this is the perfect place to bring children - long walks and crabbing followed by games round the fire. Ferry Cottage is delightful. Spacious, well appointed with a lovely private garden. I would thoroughly recommend it and look forward to another visit.

A pleasant surprise by the sea
We were visiting family in London before heading off for a mini tour in France & Italy and were looking for somewhere to have a family gathering away from London. This proved perfect! Lots of space inside, plenty of parking and you could not ask for a better equipped holiday cottage. It was recommended by a family friend who had stayed there previously so we were guided by their judgement and they were spot on.Lots to do locally, great pub, great walks and fantastic seafood. Could not ask for more

Perhaps one of the most attractive coastal villages on the East Coast, Orford retains a fascinating 12th Century Castle and Church. With a small but bespoke selection of local shops to provide your everyday provisions, craft shops, excellent restaurants and traditional pubs, Orford gives you a chance to leave the car at home. There is much to see and do at the Quay throughout the year - boat trips to Havergate Island and Orford Ness, sailing of small crafts and yachts, crabbing and fishing.
On the banks of the Ore, Orford is protected from the sea by a fascinating shingle bank, Orford Ness, which runs from Aldeburgh to the sea. Accessible by ferry, Orford Ness is now managed by the National Trust; here you can find out about this strange a
