Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Davvero una bella casa
Abbiamo trascorso sei notti. Buona posizione tra Phalassarna e Balos e Kissamos. Tranquilissima, leggermente ventilata la sera, in mezzo a niente e agli ulivi. Isolata ma non solitaria. Tutto nuovissimo e funzionante. Spazi adeguati, arredamento confortevole. Dotazioni della casa (olio extravergine d'oliva, miele, raki, eccc.ecc) notevoli. indispensabile l?auto

Giancarlo and his family were very good guests. The communication was good and they were friendly. Also they left our villa very clean, when they left.

Gorgeous villa
This really is a beautiful villa. Two comfortable bedrooms, so perfect for a family of 4, two bathrooms, nice living room and full kitchen. The downside (if you can really call it that) is that it is in the middle of nowhere (save for some local houses which we think are farm related). The first necessity is therefore a car and the second is a GPS, as it's tough to find. The guys at Mirtilos Hotel/Apts, where we went to check in, led us right to the place, but then we went out to dinner and couldn't find it again......well we did but it took quite a while. Fortunately, we soon realized that if we entered 'Azogyras' into the GPS, it brought us almost to the front door. Once we found our feet, we really loved the place. It's quiet and has great views of the surrounding mountains. It's only about 10 mins from Kissamos, which we enjoyed going to (main square or waterfront) for dinner most nights (we stayed at the villa for 9 nights) and is close to the great beaches at Falassarna. It's also quite close to Balos (but see below) and about 45 mins or so from Chania which is quite a big town and old port. One warning - it's on the description of amenities when you book (but we didn't notice) that maid service is only provided once a week. This wasn't mentioned on the Expedia confirmation so was a surprise to us because I missed it at the booking stage. No huge deal but, since only one bath towel and hand towel per person is provided, be prepared to make them last or wash them yourself. You may also run out of amenities (see below for shopping tip). There is a washer upstairs. No beach towels are available so take them or buy them. Further tips/advice :- Getting to Balos - although the villa is only a few km away, it's a horrendous journey. We thought we misheard the lady on the gate (entry is €1 each) when she said the parking was another 7km further on but it was all of that. Worse still is that the road is not paved and is very rough. It's also very narrow in places and there are sheer drops. When you do get to the parking, it's likely to be full unless you get there early, so you have to turn round and park on the road. If traffic is coming the other way, as happened with us, there can be a standoff as people, quite rightly, are scared about the car falling down the cliff. Once parked, it's a long hike down the mountain to the lagoon/ beach and an even greater test to climb back up to get home. As spectacular as the lagoon is, I would never drive there again, but you can get a boat from local ports which will remove all the concern. My advice is to take that route as the lagoon is not to be missed. Apart from Falassarna, the beaches of Elafonisi are about an hour or so away and are also not to be missed. However, the GPS will take you the coastal route, which I would avoid. Instead of turning right on the main road (E65) from the villa, turn left and go through Kissamos. Just the other side of town is a large junction (marked Chania Old Road). Take a right there then follow signs for Elafonisi. It's about the same distance as the coast road but a nicer drive and avoids the sheer drops again. Be careful when looking for the signs as some are a bit hidden. You will be bearing to the right, rather than left to Chania. You will need basic provisions unless you intend to only eat and drink out. If you head toward Kissamos, just before you hit town there is a really good, large supermarket. It not only has a great array of produce but also cheap drink (alcoholic and non) as well as toiletries and things like sunblock at cheaper prices than we saw on any other island. It's on the left hand side of the road and is marked by a sign on a large grey 'monolith' (which has its emblem of a red circle with two orange swooshes round it). There's no sign in English but the Greek lettering looks like EKAABENITHE. (If you do have to ask for it, the pronunciation is 'Sklavenetes'.) You have to go down a ramp and it's set back a little bit behind its parking lot. You'll probably find yourself visiting there a few times. We really loved the villa and thought it was great value for money.

Good apart from the air con issue
The villa is set in a quiet location surrounded by local houses. It is close to restaurants, shops and beaches. The house contains everything you need and the kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans etc. The only problem we had was that when we arrived the air conditioning in one of the bedrooms wasn’t working, the owner fitted a new system two days later but it was leaking and we were still unable to use it. We had very slow responses from the owner about this and the air conditioning didn’t get fixed until the last day of our holiday. With the unbearable heat we were all squeezed into the one bedroom that had working air conditioning.

Dear Rachel, I thank you for choosing my villa to provide you with accommodation during your holidays. Although I do agree on the positives that you mention in your review, I do not agree on the negative issue with the air-conditioning. Trully, the air-conditioning was changed on your second day, which was the day after you mentioned to us. So, the slow response argument does not stand as I changed the whole system within a day. Then, going to the leaking problem, from what I have seen the leaking was minimal and shouldn't have disallowed you from using the other room, as it was a small leakage. This issue was delayed to be fixed because all the mechanics were unavailable to come to the villa because of their work load so it Trully was out of my hands. Although I do understand your displeasure, not only I have done what was humanly best considering the situation, I have reimbursed you a sizeable amount, in my opinion more than needed, for this purpose. Looking at the temperatures during your stay, the temperatures were low for the season and time of month, far less than other years and the house itself is built from stone which makes it very cool during summer months. Then, you moved the furniture without my agreement, but I understand why you did it and you left the house untidy when you checked out. Altough I feel sorry for your inconvenience, I refunded you an amount and offered you a free breakfast on my behalf, so I can only but consider your review unacceptable and irresponsible. With best regards, Manolis.
