Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

very disappointed
We must have been very unlucky when we stayed @ The Byre for 3 nights in September. we found the property had cleaning issues. We found a blood stain top left on the double bed duvet cover. A long black hair in the bath, the cooking hob had greasy finger marks all over the controls & the baking tray had the remains of burnt on food ( had certainly not been cleaned since the previous tenant) . The hot tap in the bathroom was loose so swiveled each time when turned on & off. After using the fan heater in the sitting area for 15 minutes the plug became too hot to touch ( why ?? ). finally the previous tenants rubbish had been left against the cottage wall, as instructed by the owners we just added our rubbish @ the end of our stay. considering the cost of £100 per night plus a CLEANING charge of £20. we were very disappointed. After being given the key to the cottage on arrival there was no further contact from the owners. just shows how previous reviews can be misleading.

Beautiful cottage, would highly recommend!
What a lovely place! We stayed here as visiting family nearby and it was perfect. Beautifully presented, and clean with lots of nice touches and helpful provisions included. E.g. iron, fans (it was very warm weather) torches by the door, games, local guide books/leaflets and information from the owners. The owners were kind enough to let us check in early as we were able to contact them directly and we got a friendly greeting and brief tour of the house when we arrived. Good parking for 1 car off the road and outside sitting area for nicer days/evenings. The village seems quiet but there are a few pubs/restaurants and takeaways nearby, a co-op and spar for groceries and a few other shops too. Would highly recommend, we will be back.

A gorgeous, clean, stylish cottage
My daughter and I stayed in The Byre whilst visiting Stonehenge, the museums and Salisbury Cathedral. We loved the place. It's pretty, spotlessly clean, stylishly furnished and the beds and sofa are comfortable. The water is hot and the towels are big, fluffy and smell lovely. We adored the little outdoor area and ate a couple of meals out there when the weather permitted. Barbara, Maggy and Bob made us feel welcome and were on hand if we needed them.

Gorgeous and Comfortable Property
We spent 5 nights at The Byre over the Easter holiday and it was absolutely lovely. Our hosts made sure all our needs were met and we appreciated all the little, personal touches throughout the cottage. The space is very well maintained and the outside courtyard was in bloom with beautiful spring flowers. Pewsey is a lovely little town and was very convenient for our travels throughout the countryside (Avebury, Oxford, the Cotswolds). We hope to return one day!

Luxury Self Catering in Idyllic Wiltshire Village
The Byre is a self-contained, two-bedroom unit which was originally the cow barn adjacent to an 18th century thatched farmhouse. The conversion is luxurious, if a little cosy, with two bedrooms, one double and one with two twin beds. The kitchen is very well equipped if compact. The wooden floors and exposed beams create a rustic feel. Linens, towels and furniture are all top of the line. The rooms are all on the ground level adjacent to the parking area, which is shared with the farmhouse. Pewsey is an idyllic village with several pubs, restaurants, local supermarkets and the railway station all in walking distance. The railway station is on a main line with good connections to London, Bath (both less than an hour), and Heathrow and Gatwick airports (1 ½ - 2 hours). There is a local bus service for exploring the local area such as Marlborough, Salisbury, Winchester and the ancient stone circles at Avebury and Stonehenge. It’s also a great area for getting around by bike. The owners live on site in the thatched farmhouse and are very helpful. The entrance to the parking are can be slightly hard to spot depending on the direction you are coming from.

Small but very nice self-contained accommodation
Recently renovated, The Byre has one double bedroom and one twin. The kitchen is small but does have a fridge oven, microwave and dishwasher. Free wifi. The outside space is very pleasant.

Mrs
My friend booked The Byre since it's close to Devizes to visit family. The place was more than we expected. Very well appointed 2-bedroom cottage with all the amenities needed. Beds were very comfy with all-white soft sheets. Bathroom was spacious and white bath towels were thick and luxurious. Barbara even gave us a jug of milk & bottle of jam. We wanted to extend our stay but they're fully booked. Our hosts are beautiful people and made us all feel welcomed and right at home. The Byre is a gem!

Wonderful stay at the Byre!
We stayed at the Byre while visiting friends in a nearby town, and ended up extending our stay. The accommodations are beautiful and so much more comfortable and affordable than a hotel for a party of three. The location turned out to be unexpectedly ideal for sightseeing as well - easy drive to Salisbury, Winchester or Oxford, and a five-minute walk to the Pewsey train station for day trips to Bath or London. We can't say enough about the proprietors - lovely people and very welcoming. An all-around great experience!

About the neighbourhood
Eating: As well as numerous beautiful tea shops, pubs, local eateries and the restaurants of the market towns of Devizes, Marlborough and Salisbury, there are several restaurants of note: the 'Seven Stars' in Bottlesford the Michelin starred 'Red Lion' in East Chisenbury and the Michelin starred ‘The Harrow’ at Little Bedwyn. Festivals: There are numerous local festivals and activities throughout the year, such as the Marlborough Jazz Festival in July and its September Literature Festival, together with the unique Pewsey Carnival, the oldest in Wiltshire which lasts two weeks, also in September. Marlborough College runs a wide variety of courses during its popular Summer School 10th July - 6th August 2016). There is an excellent 'Shepherd's City & Guilds book binding course run locally at Woodborough Garden Centre. The Pewsey Vale: The Pewsey Vale is part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is extremely popular with the outdoor enthusiast. Archaeological digs around the village indicate that there has been a settlement in Pewsey since the 6th century; however it was the opening of the Kennet and Avon canal in 1810, and the railway in 1862 that transformed Pewsey into a bustling community. Pewsey remains a quaint village that retains a charming character. Pewsey is a hotspot for crop circle enthusiasts. The Vale of Pewsey’s history goes back much further with archaeology suggesting settlements from 3000BC. The vale forms part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty stretching from East Grafton in the east to Devizes in the west, its life blood is the Kennet & Avon Canal linking attractions such as Wilton Windmill and Crofton Beam Engines, the village of Pewsey with its wharf, and White Horse carvings in the surrounding down land with paragliding, walking, riding, canoeing and barge trips along the way. Visit Pewsey during September and take part in the oldest carnival in Wiltshire. Visit Pewsey during the summer and see ethereal crop circles. Visit Pewsey Vale at all times of the year and enjoy fishing at Manningford Trout Fishery, riding with Pewsey Vale Riding Centre at Stanton St Bernard and canal trips from Pewsey Wharf. Within the Pewsey Vale you’ll find charming thatched cottages, churches dating from Saxon times, and a wide range of places to eat, drink and shop, as well a Heritage Centre in Pewsey. Pewsey has its own White Horse, dating from 1937. The vale is also home to the Alton Barnes White Horse dating from 1812. Walk one of the sections of the White Horse Walks to explore these areas further.
