The best
We had an amazing month long stay in San Miguel and 99.9 percent of the reason was this home. It is not only beautiful, the energy is so calming and peaceful. There is an office with a dreamy view of the courtyard and the gurgling fountain. The roof terrace has gorgeous plants and a five star view. We had everything we wanted or needed and were very comfortable and at ease.

Beautiful home and wonderful stay!
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful colonial style Mexican home with all the modern conveniences. There were 3 bedrooms each with its own bathroom and sitting rooms that gave you privacy when you wanted. The rooftop terrace was gorgeous with a wonderful view of San Miguel de Allende. It is located on a steep cobblestone street so if you have difficulty walking just call a taxi. They are really inexpensive! I have arthritis in my right knee but I did fine walking slowly. I loved having a washer and dryer available to do laundry in the home. I wished I had known about this ahead of time and I would have packed less. Their maid comes in three times a week and is very helpful and accommodating. We had a great vacation there although a week was too short.

Thank you for your kind words. We very much appreciate it, as we are relatively new to this site, and have over one hundred five star reviews at another we've used for years. We always welcome guests who enjoy San Miguel and our home!

Large beautiful house with cold bathrooms when cold outside
By now you’ve probably read all the wonderful things about this house. You will feel like royalty living in a castle since it’s so beautiful and spacious. The beds are comfortable, the furniture is comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, etc. There is a big refrigerator with a large separate freezer compartment. The terrace is huge with comfortable furniture and fantastic views. There’s lots of hot water.
Let me tell you some things that don’t seem to matter, but really make this place exceptional when compared to other vacation rentals I’ve been in. There are lots of electric outlets and even some handy AC power bars. There are lots of light switches and some have dimmer switches. I love dimmer switches. There are lots of closets to hang your clothes, lots of hangers and lots of empty drawers. There are handy hooks everywhere. The master and twin bedrooms have separate toilet rooms. The climb up the hill to the house is steep and there is no sidewalk, just big cobblestones, but I liked it. It was the only aerobic activity I got. My favorite restaurant, El Manantial, is down the hill and only 1 ½ blocks away. The owner was very generous to give us some extra days for free at the beginning and end of our stay (3 altogether) when we found out that the direct flight from Chicago to Leon on Volaris airlines only flys on some days and not others. We got in trouble, however, because the one flight on Volaris home to Chicago was scheduled rather late in the afternoon, and so the shuttle picked us up at 2:30 pm. We were out of our rooms early so that the house keeper could clean them, and we had our bags near the front door ready to go. But we stayed in the living room/kitchen which made her have to stay later to finish up. We will be penalized for this from our security deposit. So when they say be out by 10 am, they really mean it. If you have a late flight I guess you’re supposed to tell the shuttle company you want to be picked up at 10 am and then spend the day at the airport.
Here are some trivial things that we didn’t like. There were no knobs on the inside of the bathroom doors, so you had to pull on the wood beams. I said this was trivial. The blender was not very powerful, so difficult for my husband to make smoothies. The WiFi was not fast enough to stream movies. We brought an extra HDMI cable and an adapter to make the 2 cables into one long cable which made it handy to have the laptop on the coffee table. We could see the laptop screen on the big TV, but still the internet was not good enough for Netflix. There were 2 WiFi systems in the house because it is so big, so sometimes you would be in one part of the house with your phone and would have to manually switch to the other network to get a good connection.
Here’s one thing that made me consider only giving this place 4 stars. It was very cold in the master bathroom in January and the beginning of February. The bathroom itself was nice with 2 sinks and plenty of storage space and a good shower. But the master bedroom was so large that the fireplace was very far away from the bathroom and did nothing to heat it up. I may be a wuss, but I found it very unpleasant to take showers in the morning. It was a little better in the middle of the day when it was warmer outside, and was not much of a problem at all our last few days because it got warmer outside. The Queen bedroom is probably better if you are worried about this, because the fireplace is closer to the bathroom and the room itself is much smaller. I asked the owner if we could buy a little electric heater, at our own expense, but he said no. Then I got very jealous as I saw other houses with electric heaters in the bathrooms and gas heaters near the bathrooms. We stayed the year before in Casa de Burro on Barranca which had little handy electric heaters. I don’t think this owner was worried about fire, because there were no smoke detectors or CO detectors in the house. So it must be the cost of electricity. I wouldn’t stay in that room again.
Finally, and this has nothing to do with this particular house, there is an H+ hospital nearby which everyone raves about. One of our guests, an MD from Wisconsin, came with some kind of bronchial infection on top of her asthma. At some point she went to that hospital and got a chest X-ray. She was very impressed with this hospital and thought the hospital was efficient, friendly and well-equipped. I think San Miguel del Allende is actually good for people with asthma, because the air is so clean compared to big US cities. My husband who has asthma had better breathing, as proven by his flow meter, than in Chicago.

We are always glad that our guests feel like royalty. And no, we don't allow electric heaters in the bathroom, believing water and electricity don't mix in developing countries. All part of the charm of staying in an old Colonial house in the heart of the UNESCO district, rather than at a Hyatt. If you don't mind a few quirks, and love a killer view, and a close walk to town, this may be your house.
