Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Casa Xcaanda not worth it
The house failes to live up to it's promises. The acces road is steep and full with treacherous holes. Not suitable for children and older people. In the kitchen you expect a minimum of basics to be present like sugar, pepper, salt, paper, kithenclothes...There was nothing! Not even drinkable water. Very ennoying if you arrive late and are not in the possession of a car. After asking our host, water and some groceries were provided. This should be done in advance to welcome your guests. Plastic cups for max 5-6 people (some of them broken or very dirty), only 1 big cookingpot and not 1 of the pans was suitable to prepare a meal. They were all worn-out. After complaining about this we received some descent material on day2. The kitchen was far from spotless clean. We discovered a moldy filter in the coffeebrewer and moldy, open bottles of salsa that should have been refrigerated. There is no oven, no microwave, I assume that electricity can not handle modern equipment. Half of the lights and sockets are not working The swimmingpool was not cleaned either. We found a tampon and some cigarette ends at the bottom. Filters are not working properly. Not very inviting to have a swim. The jacuzzi on the top floor was only half full with dirty water and was not working at all. If you don't like bugs, well... Casa Xcaanda is full with it. Mosquito's (There are no klamboe's), gekko's, cockroaches, spiders etc...even birds came in and ate our bread. The house is open! One of the sliding doors has only mosquito netting but no glass. The other sliding door has nothing! No glass, no mosquitonetting, just nothing! No wonder that animals and insects are coming inside. Our host told us about the hurricane 5 months ago that destroyed a lot of the windows. I try to understand the difficulties however closing your house is a top priority. Wind and rain will come in and affect the overal condition of Casa Xcaanda. It is such a pity that this beautiful place is neglected. I hope that the owners will find the means to upgrade Casa Xcaanda to make it a cosy and beautiful place again. At this moment it should not be listed on any site!

We loved Casa Xcaanda! The house has the most amazing views and was HUGE! There are nice common areas for family time and also a lot of space for privacy. Jens was attentive from afar and Alejandro helped us with anything we needed on site, including booking a boat tour, picking us up from the airport, bringing a local cook to the house for us (her name was Amy and she was great!), and getting us to the grocery store. Alejandro doesn’t speak English, and our Spanish is not great, but he was patient and we were able to work everything out regardless of the language barrier. We also loved the small little town of Puerto Angel.

It was amazing
I loved this house, it was big spacious and had an amazing view. Jens and Alejandro made sure you were well take care of, and helped with any concerns I had. My vacations exceeded my expectations. Puerto Angel is a place that doesn't have lots of luxury but if you want disconnect from the material world and reconnect with Nature, WOW this is the place. My 2 children really had an amazing adventure and loved every minute of the house and beaches Puerto Angel had to offer. I totally recommend this place for people who don't mind doing with out too much luxury.

Amazing home in Puerto Angel!
My family and I had a wonderful time at Casa Xcaanda. The house is sitting on top of a hill overlooking the ocean. We found the house clean and with all of the basic needs for our week stay. Alejandro was extremely helpful picking us up from the airport, taking us to Aurrera, the local grocery store in Pochutla, to get all of the things we needed for the week. The owner, Jens, was very attentive to make sure we had everything we needed for a great time. The house is very spacious! It has two terraces and three of the four rooms we stay at had AC! The WiFi worked very well during all of our stay. Puerto Angel is a great little town and I would highly recommended if you want to have an authentic Mexican experience. We had dinner every night in Zipolite. I strongly recommend El Alquimista, Sal y Pimienta and San Cristobal. The food in those places was terrific! We also took day trips to Mazunte, Ventanila and Zicatela in Puerto Escondido (1 hour away). I was very familiar with Huatulco, but this was my first time in Puerto Angel and I can't wait to comeback! Jen's home is about 10 min. walk from the beautiful Estacahuite Beach. We also enjoyed playa Panteon. The snorkeling in those beaches is amazing. If you want to have a great time in paradise, look no further and stay at Casa Xcaanda!

Nice 2 weeks to get away from it all'
The Casa Xaanada is every thing they say it is. Alejandro picked us up at the airport as promised. Was a little surprized there were 2 small barrels of gas in the back of the truck with our luggage. He is a fisherman 1st, so I guess he has to look out for that as well. Veronica, the lady down the road, & her 2 daughters cooked us suppers. They are the ones that hit it out of the park. Theirs home cooked Mexican meals (13 of them) made the vacation. Only neg is there is no hot water. We knew before we left there was no hot water & made the best of it. I would be willing to pay 100-150$ more a week to have it. I like to wash dish in hot water & have hot water to shower at night. Jen answered e mails when any problems popped up. I'm sure we will return to this quite little piece of paradise. Thanks again Jen, Alejandro & Veronica for making our vacation one we won't soon forget :)

amazing totally amazing
this is the place! secluded, elegant yet rustic, filled with amazing vistas, and with so much space everyone has there own room. i vacationed with my family, wife, and three kids all under 5 years old. we all loved it. kitchen perfect for cooking, or have the representative contact a local cook to come to the home, she will also shop, to make wonderful dinners that can be eaten outside. the pool was perfect as it had a shallow end for the kids and a deep side with in water stools. wild. one of our favorite daily activities was walking to the best small beach on the Oaxaca coast. an easy walk down, then as we have the kids, a taxi ride up. we will go back.there is only one problem with the home, slippery floors close the pool. this was a problem that can be fixed and then the home would be the very very best.

Amazing views, very specious and fun!
We stayed in this house a couple of times already and really enjoyed our experience! It is a great value for the price, you get three floors with individual patios overlooking the ocean. Amazing layout is welcoming for a large group to gather together on the first or second floor, a lot of space and sitting arrangements, amazing view almost from anywhere, fresh air and breeze from the ocean, we were able to take sun or rest in a shade, at night we went to the rooftop which was amazing to see all the stars so clearly. We enjoyed the sunrise and sunset views. Also the house allowed us to have our own private time, third floor suit is really nice with its own little pool and cozy patio. Absolutely coming back again, we love Oaxaca and this is our favorite place to stay!
