Helensdale is three and a half miles from Drummore and about 3 miles from the Mull of Galloway - the most southernly point in Scotland. It is located on a peninsula which has a varying and enchanting range of coastal features from sandy beaches on the East coast to a variety of cliffs, rocks and sandy coves on the West, the most famous of which are the delightful village of Port Logan and the picturesque fishing village of Portpatrick.
The climate here is warmed by the Gulf Stream and the area is renowned for its Gardens including the exotic Logan Botanic, Logan House, Castle Kennedy, Dunskey and Glenwhan. Also within a 1 hour drive are Culzean near Turnberry and Threave near Castle Douglas.
At the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse is the RSPB reserve which also has webcams at nesting sites and seal breeding areas, This along with the unspoilt countryside and the Mull of Galloway Trail coastal path from Loch Ryan (stranraer) to Mull of Galloway and the Southern Upland Way which starts in Portpatrick makes the area a must for nature lovers and walkers.
There are also a variety of Golf Clubs and fishing locally. Within a 1 hour drive is Galloway Forest Park, with many trails for walking, cycling and mountain biking. Slightly further away is Cream of Galloway (activities and home made icecream), Chocolate Factory (near Twynholm) and Loch Ken watersports near Castle Douglas.

Helensdale was wonderful! The house is very spacious, and welcoming, with everything you need. I have a lot of joint pain, and never usually manage to sleep the whole night, but the bed was very comfortable, and I slept the best sleep in ages! There views from the living room are breathtaking across the sea to Ireland! The area is beautiful, so peaceful, it was just perfect!
This is the second property from the Coastal Cottages properties we have stayed in, and they were both fabulous. Both warm, with a lovely atmosphere, our Collie who is usually a little unsure about new places, settled down quickly in both places (a miracle)

Breakfast with binoculars
Wanting to escape the noice of fireworks we found Helensdale cottage on the coast in Scotland.
We were very happy with it location and as we approached realised we had made an excellent choice as it overlooks a quiet bay
Although the bay is rocky and not suitable for dog walking it took nothing away from its location. We entered a warm spacious bungalow with more that enough room for two people with 3 dogs .
The bungalow is well equipped and clean and there was a welcome pack of eggs t bags and biscuits and a few fire starting items to get you going but it was so lovely and warm it wasn’t essential . The double bed downstairs ( overlooking the sea ) was comfortable and extra blankets were available if needed ( they weren’t ! )
Breakfast every morning for us was taken in the sitting room seated on the swivel chairs in the bay window overlooking the sea and ship spotting on the horizon there was even binoculars supplied for this .
If we had any enquiries elsbeth was quick the reply . Well stocked shop in the village of drummore 10 mins drive away . Stranraer 25 mins away with more selection of shops and supermarkets
We highly recommend this beautiful property/ place
And have lucky enough to book again next year
And ……. We saw the northern lights!

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your away from it all stay, so much so, that you have booked again for next year. Looking forward to seeing you again in November.

Stunning cottage
Just back from our third stay at Helensdale and yet again it didn’t disappoint, in fact we have voted it our best ever holiday. The cottage is in a stunning location to really get away from it all and watch the local wildlife. Highlights this time were a sightseeing boat trip around the lighthouse, fishing for mackerel and meeting some wonderful locals. The cottage is super warm and cosy in the winter but stayed really cool in the heat last week. Fabulously equipped to cater at home but make sure you also eat out and sample the delicious local seafood. We will most certainly be returning as soon as we can.

Real Gem.
The cottage is some distance from Drummore (the nearest village), the accommodation is of high standard, clear the owner looks after the cottage. The best bit are the views, from the lounge you can look over the Irish Sea and see the lights in Northern Ireland, you can also spot the ships passing by from cruise ships to fishing boats. We were lucky enough to see some porpoises in the bay and lots of sea birds.
Nice and quiet, well equipped & clear dark Skies at night.
