About the neighbourhood
Saunton Sands is often listed as the place that has most sun, or the highest temperatures, having a unique microclimate created by the topography. The parish of Braunton has 500 species of wild flowers, more than any other spot in the UK. There are 33 species of butterflies. Though it has 3 mile long safe beach, it is a small place with no caravan or camping sites. Adjacent to the beach there is a good restaurant, and a snack bar, beach shop, surf hire and tuition and beach hut hire. St Anne's Chapel has services every Sunday. Cliff walks, easy day trips to Lundy Island, Appledore,Clovelly or Exmoor ...there is much to do if you tire of the beach or the deck. The RHS garden at Rosemoor is popular with gardeners.
How to get there
Recommended to come by car. Ample private parking adjacent to house. If arriving by train at Barnstaple buses run each hour to Saunton. Get off at Golf Club. With bicycle, take cycle path from Barnstaple to Braunton, then road to Saunton. Buses also available from London to Braunton and then change to local bus to Saunton.
