Don't forget that this region boasts 300 days of sunshine each year! Even in the winter months it's not unusual to enjoy 20 degrees and outdoor dining! And the Canal du Midi is stunningly beautiful all year round!
Argens-Minervois offers visitors the opportunity to unwind and turn back time. It's quietly tucked away on the sleepy banks of the Canal du Midi in the department of the Aude, with flourishing vineyards as far as the eye can see.
A series of country roads and trails through the vines, around our lake, or along the banks of the canal provide guests with scenic walking, hiking or running routes. And all of this within just 5 minutes' walk!
Argens is unique in that it is one of the few villages on the canal du midi which has a port where visitors can rent a cruiser. It's a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, or simply gaze at the boats as they sail by whilst enjoying a nice refreshing glass of wine or cup of coffee at one of the three canal side restaurants.
The village epicerie (grocery store) is also within 5 minutes' walk, as are the three operational wine caves in the village. Enjoy sampling the village wines at wine tasting sessions at the caves, or visit Café Le Troubadour, which is owned and operated by our neighbour Gilbert. He and his patrons are always willing to share their knowledge of the local wines - and the locality in general.
Argens is located between the Mediterranean and the Black Mountains in the Minervois wine-growing valley. It is approximately 20 kilometers from the historic city of Narbonne and 40 kilometers from the city of Carcassonne with its amazing medieval walled village and chateau. Argens is also conveniently located justi 20-minutes' drive from two major autoroutes, (A9 and A61), providing direct access to Toulouse and Montpellier (1.25 hours), Perpignan and Collioure (1.5 hours), and Barcelona (3 hours).
A 5-minute drive from Argens-Minervois takes guests to the beautiful market towns of Olonzac and Lézignan-Corbières. There they can experience real day-to-day French living at a variety of bistros, restaurants, markets, specialty food stores (such as boulangeries, patisseries, poisonnieres, etc), supermarkets, shops, and service providers.
Besides enjoying the land, guests staying at La Cave Bed and Breakfast may also enjoy the sea. The long sandy beaches, marshlands, and rocky outcrops of the Mediterranean Coast near Narbonne and Gruissan are only a 30-minute drive away.
So come and enjoy the comforts of home surrounded by the beauty and refreshing simplicity of the French countryside.More
One of the biggest attractions of this area in the winter months is the weather. This region boasts 300 days of sunshine each year! It's not unusual, even in the winter months, to get days of 20 degrees and to enjoy outdoor dining! One of the local attractions that should not be missed is a trip to the Medieval village of Minerve, perched almost teetering on the top of the hillside with magnificent views, and steeped in history. There is a Routier recommended restaurant there too! Then there is the beach and harbour at Collioure - a breathtaking sight, especially with its castle and the Church of Notre Dame des Anges. So breathtakingly scenic, it has been painted by many acclaimed artists over the years, whose works of art are often displayed as you stroll around the harbour. And of course...
