Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Home comforts in the middle of nowhere :)
This was our second visit to Karoo Ridge and it just gets better and better :). Beautiful cottages in the most stunning wild setting. Helen and Pete are amazing hosts - you can feel the love and attention they have put into their offering. After 4 days we left feeling relaxed and ready to conquer the world. Lots of different places to sit/lie, from swinging chairs, to hammocks, to outside day-beds. For the hotter days there is an outside shower (hot and cold) and a pool, and for those nights a boma with lanterns. We will certainly be going back again and again!

Hidden gem in the Karoo
We had an amazing stay at Karoo Ridge over the Easter break. It's the perfect escape back to nature, taking game drives and walks we got to see so much of the incredible land. We stayed in the beautiful mountain lodge where we had the most incredible view of the sunsets! Pete and Helen are so knowledgeable and truly care about conserving this very special part of the world.

A lovely hidden gem in the Karoo
We had a lovely brief stop at Karoo Ridge and would highly recommend a visit. The farm is lovely and the cottage we stayed in was very spacious and well decorated. Lots of game to see on the farm and we enjoyed walks up the ridge and a great game drive for sundowners.

Great getaway - take your camera!
Wonderful week with friends. Accommodation clean and comfortable. Welcome and support from owners great. Food, local, hearty and tasty. Limitless access to thousands of acres of conservation land. Loads of wildlife, birds and beasts, interesting flora; dark skies, iconic scenery.

Experience the gloriously rugged Karoo desert landscape in comfort
I spent 5 nights here with a small group of photography enthusiasts.
Very spacious accommodation that fits well in to the landscape. It provides all one needs to experience the fantastic Karoo desert environment that is so little visited by non-South Africans.
Comfortable beds & well-provided common areas for sitting and lounging inside and out. Water and power supplies were fully reliable during our stay (which can be issues anywhere in the world in areas as remote as this).
We were on the fully-catered option so didn't use the kitchen area much, but there's plenty of good-quality modern equipment, refrigerator space, crockery & cutlery should you wish to use it, and lots of horizontal space on worktops, tables, shelves etc. The catering was brilliant, and a good opportunity to try a lot of fine South African home-style food. Don't expect to lose any weight! Pete's braais are deservedly famous, and the local meat is top class.
Pete and Helen are immensely knowledgeable about local wildlife, conservation, animal husbandry & family living in this harsh environment, and they are generous teachers. Do take advantage of game drives across the conservancy - the landscape is spectacular in places and, although sightings of large predators such as leopard are very unlikely, there's a wide range of local antelope and birdlife, some quite rare (such as Sable, including young).
Rugged walks are mapped and signposted from the lodge, and there are some spectacular landscape photography opportunities involving the weathered ridges, kopjes, rock stacks and windmills in the locality.
It's a dark-sky region, and spending an evening here on the lodge balcony, glass in hand, gazing at the Milky Way over the dying embers of a fire is truly one of life's great pleasures.

Get away from it all and return to nature.
Just back from Karoo Ridge, fantastic place and holiday. The lodge was spacious, authentic and comfortable. Loved swinging in the hammock on the porch, watching stars in the darkest of skies. Fully catered with great food throughout the stay, the barbeques or bray were exceptional.
Lots of walking and photo opportunities in the wild and rugged landscape, with plenty of game, zebra, sable, and much more which is raised for conservation reasons on the reserve. We even did clay-pigeon shooting.
Helen and Pete were so friendly , helpful, and extremly knowledgeable couldn't be faulted they did verything they could to make our stay enjoyable
