Stay in a beautifully restored Barn at the heart of our farm. Enjoy local produce, tranquility, adventure, it's really up to you. A stunning and timeless setting for you to explore in one of Cumbria's idyllic Lake District settings. Voted in The Guardian as ‘one of the 10 ten best back-to-nature stays in England' 2016. Until early 2014 the Barn was used to store logs. Back in history the barn was a stable and byre (a place to house cattle in the winter). Widewath Barn is Grade II Iisted and has been sympathetically restored to retain its integrity. Care has been taken to retain original features including open stone walls and wooden beams. Where possible, the Barn has been furnished with quality recycled items. Widewath Barn is a small sole occupancy self catering unit sleeping 2 – 6 people. The bedroom has 2 sets of bunk beds and a double bed. The restored stable stall is still in place and provides a privacy screen in the bedroom. Relax around the large pine farmhouse table in the living/dining room. This room leads into a secluded space, a 'snug' to spill into to pour over maps and plan routes for the following day's activity. There is a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and a shower room with a spacious shower cubicle with powerful shower and a great vintage armitage shanks sink! A wood pellet boiler provides hot water and underfloor heating, keeping the Barn toasty warm. A traditional stable block opposite provides plenty of space for dirty boots/wet jackets, a spot of bike maintenance or even a game of table tennis! There is secure cycle storage for 6 bikes. Catch the sun in the quiet orchard. More

We stayed at Widewath with our 2 young children in early March. The barn itself is great: immaculately clean; very comfortable beds; powerful warm shower. It’s actually bigger than the pictures imply and the sofa bed in the snug adds another possible sleeping configuration. Location...More

Thanks very much Chris for your review. So glad you all enjoyed it. It was great to see your son's face light up when he saw the tractor! I hope that your day 'farming' went well! See you again when the sun shines!

If you are looking to get away from it all, in a beautiful location, this fits the bill. Very clean and has everything you need already there.

Our last visit to the lakes was a few years ago and without children. Then we stayed in Ambleside, but minus kids we stayed in a boutique hotel and were able to walk into Ambleside to eat every evening. This time we wanted somewhere an...More

What a lovely cottage for a family stay on the edge of the Lake District. We loved the location - how wonderful to have completely black nights and no noise except a very gentle sound distant animals or the occasional hen passing by. Hosts were...More

About the neighbourhood
Out and About! Make the most of our ideal location! Situated on the eastern fringe of the Lake District and only footsteps away from the Eden Valley, we are ideally located to explore this diverse landscape from high fells to the more intimate valleys. Bring your boots and bikes and explore! Venture up onto the wide open Cumbrian Fells - bag a Wainwright or take a more leisurely 'Tale Trail' with the family. Recreational and experienced road cyclists and mountain bikers will be in their element, as will those on horseback. There are a range of other activities to suit families, individuals & groups alike. Try rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, canoeing, bushcraft & archery near Ullswater or outdoor photography and mountain skills courses. Eat and Explore! There's so much to do in...
Getting around
This a rural area. Many people travel here by car. Once here though you can walk or cycle. Bring your mountain bikes - there's direct access onto the fell, or road bikes - cycle on quiet country lanes. Many people enjoy a trip on the steamer on Ullswater Lake.
