The Old Stable is a charming cottage, orginally converted from a stable (hence the name!) in the tiny hamlet of Crackpot, sleeping 3, along with a travel cot for an infant. The Stable has a cosy living room with logburner (first basket of fuel included) and great views over nearby roofs looking down Swaledale. The cottage is accessed through the front door into the hall, from which the kitchen leads off, and then through to the living room. There is also a downstairs cloakroom and the cottage benefits from central heating. The Old Stable is attractively decorated, well-equipped and ideal for walkers or just for relaxing. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and the second bedroom is a single, both with views towards hills and the dale. The upstairs shower room has a large shower enclosure...The Old Stable is a charming cottage, orginally converted from a stable (hence the name!) in the tiny hamlet of Crackpot, sleeping 3, along with a travel cot for an infant. The owners live next door and are happy to provide local information (such as good places to eat or walk). There are a variety of gardens in front of the cottage, with lovely views, and there is a private lawned garden for the use of Old Stable guests, although it's not totally enclosed, and reached by a path with a 3' drop to the side (no handrail). One small to medium well-behaved dog is welcome, although due to the cottage being surrounded by livestock, and the garden not being totally enclosed, the owners request a dog be kept on a lead when outside. A lovely cottage in a rural position, with terrific views over Swaledale, perfect for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales National Park! One small/medium dog welcome. Free wifi. Towels included. Sorry, no smoking.

Dogs are strictly not allowed upstairs or on furniture and must be on a lead when outside (livestock nearby and garden not fully enclosed). The Stable must be left clean and tidy on departure. It would be a great help if guests could strip the beds used.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Gorgeous views!
Highly recommended as a lovely place for a couple or small family to stay! The cottage was very nicely appointed and decorated, warm and cosy with comfy beds, all kitchen supplies needed, plenty of space, Netflix and beautiful views down the Dale. The location was brilliant; just driving around the area was a treat with stunning scenery everywhere we went, good pubs and cafes with home made food and good service. Our baby hates showers so that was the only downside for us but otherwise things were pretty baby-friendly. The owners were friendly and helpful and we appreciated the welcome pack including some delicious Wenslydale cheese.

About the neighbourhood
Crackpot is found along a single track road, either from Low Row, or from Gunnerside bridge top. It's in the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and it is an area of outstanding beauty. It is ideal for walkers, hikers, ramblers and anyone who admires stunning scenery; you don't have to be a keen walker to come to Swaledale, it's perfect for just relaxing! There are little picturesque villages and charming market towns nearby, with lots of good pubs, where you can meet the locals and have a great pint of beer.
Getting around
A car is essential to reach the cottage, although once there, you can walk to the main road (a few miles each way) to hail the bus (Little White Bus Company), which can take you further updale, or downdale to Reeth or Richmond.
