Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Great place
We were a group of 6 ladies staying in this luxurious accommodation. We were so pleased that all beds could be made into singles and the en-suite bathrooms were most welcome The lodge is of a very high specification and very well equipped. The hot tub was a lovely addition and great enjoy even through the weather was cold outside We enjoyed our walk to the Black Swan which had an exceptional Sunday lunch Would recommend and hope to return

Perfect accommodation in perfect location
Swaledale lodge was lovely. Light and airy, yet also cosy and had everything we needed for a 4 'adults'. The extras that make a difference included enough crockery, cutlery and pans so that you didn't have to wash up every time (some cottages seriously only give you the exact amount to match occupancy!), Also included were dishwasher tabs & laundry tabs, tea, coffee, sugar and cooking oil - simple things that do make a difference. The welcome tray and pint of milk in the fridge were very welcome after a really long drive. The location is wonderful. So peaceful with magical scenery. And yes we did see red squirrels just a stone's throw from our lodge. Everything was sparkling clean. The towels were plentiful and soft. The hot tub was brilliant. We would definitely recommend to our friends and family.

Amazing
Wow! what a lovely family break we had in the most amazing accommodation in such a perfect quiet away from it all location……just wished we could have stayed longer than 3 nights. There were 6 adults 1 teenager and a dog and there certainly was more than enough space for us all…… the whole quality of decor exquisitely done to make it really feel home from home whilst also giving so much information on the background of the local area. The welcoming touches of homemade cake fresh eggs milk etc were more than we expected and very well received and devoured! The hot tub was used daily whilst spotting various wildlife visiting the grounds and a real focal point for us with the kitchen being so well equipped it was a pleasure to cook and enjoy quality time altogether. Found some lovely easy walks suitable for us all (including an 8 month pregnant daughter!) from information left within Lodge. Thank you for renting your lodge to us and I really hope we can visit again in the future.

Amazing log cabin!
We stayed at the cabin the weekend before Christmas, it couldn't have felt anymore Christmassy, there were lights around the whole lodge and we had a Christmas tree up, the local town Kirby was lovely and would definitely recommend the Pennine Hotel for food & drink. The log fire in the lodge heats the whole lodge up so quickly and to top it off the hot tub was the perfect temperature which finished off each night of the amazing weekend we had!

Perfect Stay
We have just spent three nights in the beautiful Swaledale lodge with our three children and two dogs. What a wonderful break we had. The lodge is extremely warm and comfortable with a wood burner and the decor is gorgeous. A delicious cake and other necesities were left in our lodge for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The views are amazing and the hot tub is an added bonus to relax in. There is nothing around the lodges which makes it even more relaxing. We ate in the local pub The Black Sheep which is about a mile down the road and was delicious. Thank you so much can't wait to return!

Brilliant
First stay in a sheep lodge over the new year period and it was superb. Space, facilities and all mod cons go together with the wonderfully peaceful and picturesque setting to make a relaxing break. The location is a short downhill walk to a lovely pub and after a couple of hand pulled ales c the uphill walk back is much more attractive. The dark sky area make for great star gazing especially from the hot tub with all the lights off. Ravenstonedale is a great location to investigate the Dale's but also to pop across to the eastern lake district. The area is very dog friendly and the main tebay services are nearby for an interesting shop. We have stayed in the bird lodges many times but the layout, facilities and space make the sheep lodges a leap up in making your holiday special, especially for a bigger group. Highly recommended.

Superb location, very comfortable accommodation
We came to spend a few days during a graduation trip and wanted to be in the countryside with easy access to Lancaster and enjoy short trips to the Lake District and Yorkshire. Four people coming from various locations, and thoroughly enjoyable place to spend the time. Very spacious, great walks, good locality and easy access.

Perfectly Quirky Home from Home!
Upon entering the Lodge, you could immediately feel the inviting, cosy and warm ambience that the owners have worked so thoughtfully to create. From the comfortable furnishings to the quirky and stylish framed pictures and lighting (my favourite being the pendent whisks!) it really is a delight to call home for the duration of the break! The icing on the cake is the very luxurious, high end Hot Tub, which my 10 year old son loved and we had a daily 15 minute soak with “hot tub stories from Jake” whilst watching the rain. Thank you for the little treats that were waiting to welcome us, from the organic bread, milk, eggs, butter and the very naughty but nice, home made Cake! Would I recommend staying..... I’m tempted to say no, as it means the chances of us getting availability are slim but selfish reasons aside, NO HESITATION to anyone looking to stay in a very clean, absolutely perfectly quirky lodge. We will be booking again and wanted Christmas but it’s already fully booked (no surprise) but we will be back for a slice of home from home.

Majestic!!!
Thank You Jennie & Neil for a fanstastic Easter Weekend.. Lodge is truly amazing, kids loved the easter egg hunt and relaxing in hot tub. Highlight for me was climbing caulkey sprout to see the waterfall and relaxing in hot tub waiting for full moon to set over the hill. My wife and daughter would also recommend the In lodge massage which was kindly arranged by Jenny. (Sorry Jennie for messing you around over booking times) If you are looking for nice food the Black Swan is within walking distance and food is top notch.. Look forward to returning real soon!!!

About the neighbourhood
Artlegarth Lodges are in a perfect position for exploring both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks but there is plenty to do right on the doorstep too: Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill and Wild Boar fells offering excellent opportunities for walking. Pamphlets are provided in your lodge for twenty local walks in Ravenstonedale and Kirkby Stephen, some of them leaving from the doorstep of your lodge. With plenty of options you can choose from a gentle stroll right through to an enthusiastic yomp. Artlegarth Lodges are a short scenic stroll (one mile) down a quiet country lane to the village of Ravenstonedale with its popular two real ale pubs, The Black Swan and The Kings Head, which both serve fantastic food.
Getting around
Local classic coach bus service is available on select days, cycling routes are excellent as well as public foot paths and fell/country walks, horse riding can be booked locally too and a car may be required if you feel the need to travel out of the full vastness of the two National Parks here.
