Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Unbeatable lodge
This was our second stay at Herdwick Lodge and we were even more impressed than before. The lodge is cosy and warm but big enough for six adults, a baby and a dog to not be on top of each other. Fantastically well equipped, with lovely thoughful extras and excellent communication at all points in the process. Will very definately be back.

Fabulous
What an amazing place. The surrounding fields, hills and trees where beautiful, a lovely view when in the hot tub. The cabin was immaculate with everything we needed. We enjoyed the homemade bread and the lovely cake that was left for us, along with eggs, butter and milk. We wanted a relaxing place to enjoy our girly trip away, and that’s exactly what we got. Each day we chose one of the walks we found in the information box, and thoroughly enjoyed them all. It’s a lovely walk into the village and we had a meal the Kings Head which we thoroughly enjoyed. There is a great atmosphere and ambience in here and the staff where really lovely. From booking until checking out, the management of Artelgarth made the process very easy, and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Fab, fab, fab. Looking forward to our next visit soon.

A perfect place to see in The New Year
Our second visit to Herdwick and again it didn’t disappoint. It is tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and so warm and cozy. The views across out over the fells from the lodge or while relaxing in the hot tub are beautiful and so relaxing. We enjoyed a lovely meal in The Fat Lamb which is only a short walk away and there’s also a couple of other pubs in the village which serve food. There’s plenty of fabulous places to visit and such stunning countryside to enjoy, We love it so much we’ve booked again😊 See you in December.

A home from home (only more luxurious!)
This was our first holiday for six years and we wanted somewhere special - and this beautiful lodge didn't disappoint. It was spacious but cosy, and very welcoming - when we arrived we found milk, eggs, butter and homemade bread and a cake! No detail was too or too much trouble (for example, they ring me beforehand to find out about my disability and ask if thee was anything they could provide to make my stay more comfortable). The team there made us feel very looked after being immediately responsive to any needs and even doing our washing when the washing machine had a fault and could not be fixed. We highly recommend the Lodges at Artlegarth to anyone who wants a comfortable place to come home to after a hard day's walking. It is then that the hot tub really comes into its own!

Well appointment lodge with log burner and hot tub- ideal for exploring the Yorkshire Dales NP.
We stayed for 5 nights in this well appointed, extremely comfortable lodge (Herdwick) with a log burner and hot tub. It is only a mile from the local village of Ravenstonedale which has 2 pubs and less than a fifteen minute drive to Kirkby Stephen with a supermarket - yet it has a secluded feel. It is an excellent base for walking and even in a short winters day there is plenty to see and explore. The staff were friendly and efficient in helping us with any queries. Heartily recommend

Gorgeous Lodge in Amazing Location
An absolutely gorgeous lodge, open plan, spacious and very comfortable. Extremely high attention to detail and cleanliness first-class throughout. Undercover hot tub is one of the cleanest we have used and boasts amazing views. Set in a quiet rural location, about a mile's walk to the superb village of Ravenstonedale. Many walks from the lodge (only used the car once to visit Kirkby Stephen). The management team do a great job ensuring everything is maintained to a high standard, especially Selina and Trevor who were most helpful during our stay, ensuring we were comfortable and helping us with fabulous walks Have spent many holidays in luxurious lodges and would definitively recommend Artlegarth Lodges to anyone looking for lovely accommodation in a beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales.

A beautiful lodge with amazing views
A perfect location for enjoying the stunning Cumbria and Yorkshire countryside. The lodge was tastefully decorated, very well equipped and so cosy. The log burner and the hot tub were very welcome after a day out enjoying the blustery autumn weather. We will definitely be returning!

Perfect weekend break
A fantastic weekend in a beautiful lodge. We will definitely be returning! The lodge was immaculate, gorgeous decor, equipped with everything you would need. The hottub was lovely, the bed very comfy, dog friendly, and the cake on arrival and a welcome card was a lovely touch! The views are priceless, and the lodges are easy to get to, near some lovely pubs (The Kings Head + The Black Swan)

An amazing get away
We had the most fabulous time at Herdwick Lodge - so stylish and well thought out inside, lovely personal touches and so well equipped - certainly deserves to be called a luxury lodge! The hot tub with its views was blissful and we loved the local walks you could do from your doorstep - all brilliantly detailed for us! Thank you for such a great stay - we will definitely be back!

About the neighbourhood
Artlegarth Lodges are in a perfect position for exploring both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks but there is plenty to do right on the doorstep too: Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill and Wild Boar fells offering excellent opportunities for walking. Pamphlets are provided in your lodge for twenty local walks in Ravenstonedale and Kirkby Stephen, some of them leaving from the doorstep of your lodge. With plenty of options you can choose from a gentle stroll right through to an enthusiastic yomp. Artlegarth Lodges are a short scenic stroll (one mile) down a quiet country lane to the village of Ravenstonedale with its popular two real ale pubs, The Black Swan and The Kings Head, which both serve fantastic food.
