Nestled on beautiful cobbled Bethesda Hill in the heart of Downalong, Shutters is the perfect getaway if you want to escape it all but still have everything you need just steps away.

We’re Jenny and Chris, owners of Shutters and long time lovers of St Ives. We both spent many happy childhood holidays here and wanted a place where we could get away from our busy lives. After hunting for two years we fell in love with Shutters and we hope you’ll love this special place too.

Shutters is a nautically themed, traditional fisherman’s cottage renovated by Slovenian born craftsman Jani. Renowned for his passion for the environment and sustainable materials, this shows in every handcrafted piece in the house.

As you arrive at Shutters you’ll find us tucked away on a quiet street, it’s too narrow for cars so perfect if you have kids. The only...

Jenny & Chris have thought of everything (even down to the deck chairs}- to ensure guests have a very comfortable & relaxing stay. The cottage is tastefully furnished with matching decor, which makes it the perfect place to spend a wonderful holiday in St Ives.

Nicely updated fisherman's cottage in the absolute heart of St. Ives. You simply can't get closer! It was fun to be able to just walk a few steps and be right on the main street. Some excellent places to eat right nearby, as well as...More

About the neighbourhood
Our nearest pub is The Sloop Inn – an ancient pub humming with the history of sailors and fishermen.
There are plenty of local shops including Boots and The Co-Op for groceries. And we’d suggest you try local independent bakeries such as St Ives Bakery (Fore Street) for delicious meringues and freshly baked Cornish Pasties. Just watch out for the seagulls who might try and steal your goodies!
Getting around
The bus station is located next to the train station if venturing outside St Ives. The train station is a picturesque branch line between St Ives and St Erth. Catching the train to Carbis bay and walking back along the coast path is highly recommended!

How to get there
Railway: St Ives: 1.0 km
Shutters is on a pedestrianised street. We usually drive to the junction of Bethesda Hill and Back Road East to unload the car (a few steps from the front door) before moving the car to The Island car park or Barnoon car park.

If you're staying in Cornwall for a week a Rover ticket is a good option as it works in most council run long stay car parks in Cornwall. Just Google 'Cornwall Rover Ticket' and you can buy online.
