About the neighbourhood
Bovisand Lodge is only five minutes drive from the Mount Batten Centre - 2 miles away, where you can arrange almost any water sport including sailing and diving. From here it only takes 4 minutes by water taxi to the cobbled streets of the historic Barbican in Plymouth where Sir Francis Drake famously played bowls before defeating the Spanish Armada. Boat trips around the Sound and up the River Tamar to the Naval Dockyards can also be arranged, or climb the Lighthouse! Within 1 mile is Staddon Heights golf club with panoramic views of Plymouth Sound, open to non-residents. The nearest riding stables are at Wembury, 5 miles away and there are beautiful trails along the coastal path and the tors of rugged Dartmoor for leisurely walks.
Getting around
It's necessary to have a car. In the height of the season a bus runs from the top of the valley into Plymouth city centre. Plymouth train station is approx 7 miles. Plymouth ferry port is approx 7 miles.
