We really loved our stay at The Quarter House - I'd highly recommend it. We travelled with young children and grandparents and everyone loved it. It's in a brilliant location with loads of period charm - very central and on a beautiful street. Not too...More

I wish we'd had more than one night to stay in this lovely historic cottage. It was comfortable, well appointed, and easy to find (I already knew my way around Rye, so perhaps that helped). We didn't meet the owners but the instructions for finding...More

About the neighbourhood
Rye is reputed to have its own micro-climate - often sunny when not sunny elsewhere in England! 10 mins from the coast, with its cliffs, beaches, woods, golf, kitesurfing and sailing activities. Bodiam, Leeds & Dover Castles are all nearby, with many National Trust and English Heritage properties locally. There are many festivals to plan a visit around, including: the Rye Jazz Festival at the end of August and The Rye Arts Festival in September, which attracts many visitors with its famous & diverse programme of cultural events; the famous Sussex Bonfire Parades in October and November; and the Scallop and Mediaeval Festivals in Spring & Summer.
How to get there
If travelling by car, there are two routes: from the M25 take either the A21/A268 south towards Hastings, which goes through beautiful Kent/East Susses towns and villages, or head east towards Dover on the M20 and then south on the A2070, again towards Hastings - this route takes in the unique scenery of Romney Marsh. If travelling by train, Rye station is 3-4 minutes walk away from the Quarter House. There are several options, either from London Charing Cross (change at Ashford International or Hastings), or from London St Pancras International - this is a high-speed service to Ashford, which takes 38 mins - change at Ashford to Rye. PARKING INFORMATION: Please note that Rye is a mediaeval town with narrow streets, so there are many local car parks to serve both visitors and residents. When you arrive, pull up outside the cottage on the pavement opposite (before the bollard) from where you can easily unload, and we then will direct you to parking, or use the info below if we do not greet you. The best and cheapest parking is at the Market Car Park, located off Cinque Ports Street, which is a 3 minute walk away. Once you have unloaded, leave The Quarter House and at the bottom of The Mint turn right and follow signs to town centre. Once on Cinque Ports Street, you will see a sign on your right for the Market Car Park labelled 'Rye College Rye Primary School'. Turn left and left again to enter the car park, and drive right through to park at the far end. Then just walk up the hill, turn right onto The Mint and we are a few yards down on the right hand side. The charge is £1.50 per calendar day, come and go as you like - this is the same system many residents use. Please be aware that Thursday is market day however so you'll need to park elsewhere. Street parking is also available and is free from 5pm-10am the following morning. Please give us a call a couple of days before your arrival to confirm final details, and also if possible call on the day itself as it's always helpful to have an accurate eta.
