Stow-on-the-Wold is possibly the most famous of the many Cotswold market towns, well known for its wide range of restaurants, pubs and antique shops. Stow sits at the top of a hill in the heart of the North Cotswolds, with many beautiful countryside walks straight from the town, and it is ideally located for exploring the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath. Bag End is a traditional Cotswold stone property and both the main house and the cottage contain a wealth of character features, including exposed stone walls, oak beams, flagstone flooring and wood burning stoves in both the house and the cottage. Complementing this traditional character, the property has modern facilities, including wireless internet access, four flatscreen TVs with DVD players, and well presented kitchens in both the main house and the cottage. Bag End sleeps a maximum of 6+2 people, in two bedrooms in the main house, plus one bedroom and an additional sofa bed in the cottage. There are two bathrooms in the main house and an ensuite bathroom in the cottage. A particular feature of the property is its beautiful walled garden, which is much larger than for most comparable properties in Stow. Free street parking is available outside, or close to the house. Bag End is a beautiful property for groups of friends or larger families to relax in and enjoy a lovely break in the heart of the Cotswolds. House Rules Security deposits A security deposit of £250 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. Occupancy The maximum occupancy of the property, including its grounds, is eight guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than eight guests at the property. Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by one additional infant. Pets One small dog is accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking. For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. Bed sizes and configurations Bedroom 1 (house): King size bed Bedroom 2 (house): Double bed Bedroom 3 (cottage): 2 x single beds or super king size bed Cottage: Sofa bed Bathrooms Family bathroom (house): Slipper bath with shower attachment, toilet and wash basin Bedroom 2 ensuite (house): Walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin Bedroom 3 ensuite (cottage): Walk-in shower, toilet and double wash basin Heating, fuel and logs The property has a gas central heating system. Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. An initial basket of logs is provided for the wood burning stoves in the dining room and the cottage, from October to April, and further log supplies can be purchased locally. Services provided The property has free wireless internet access and four TVs with DVD players. Please note that whilst the internet connection is usually excellent, there may be the odd time in the Cottage it is intermittent due to reception. There is no telephone at the property, however mobile phone reception is generally OK, particularly in the garden. Parking Free on street parking is readily available, either outside the property or a short walk away. Child friendly facilities A travel cot (without linen) and a high chair are provided. The property's walled garden is fully enclosed. Initial consumables A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay. Accessibility, health and safety This is an old property and has many character features, including a steep staircase to the second floor of the house, with a low doorway, a low ceiling in bedroom 2, and a steep, narrow spiral staircase in the cottage, with low beams at the top of the stairs, all of which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency. The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk. The front door of the house opens onto the street and guests with young children should take particular care to ensure that the children are supervised when the door is opened. Hen, Stag and other same gender groups Unfortunately, Hen, Stag and other same gender groups are not allowed at Bag End. If you would like to enquire as part of a same gender group, please contact us, as these may be accepted at the sole discretion of the property owner. Please note that same gender family groups are welcome. Stow Horse Fair The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade, which dates back to 1476, when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates. Other The property is located on one of Stow's busier roads and some guests may be aware of traffic noise at night. About the neighbourhood
Located in the north Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the principal market towns in the region. The main feature of the town is the historic market square which used to play host to the annual sheep fairs where, at the height of the Cotswold wool industry, up to 20,000 sheep were sold at one time.
