This characterful holiday home, a spacious converted Cotswolds chapel, is set on the slopes of the Slad Valley in the heart of the Cotswold Hills, one of the most picturesque and unspoilt locations in England. It is available for holiday rentals and short breaks all year. The hamlet of Slad, immortalised by Laurie Lee in 'Cider with Rosie', boasts glorious views, endless great walks and one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds - The Woolpack, just 300 metres from The Old Chapel. Built in 1865, the converted old chapel is stylishly furnished without being contrived. The furniture is a mix of antique, retro and contemporary. It offers very comfortable self-catering holiday accommodation for up to 10 guests (no more than 8 adults) and is ideal for two families to share. The owners continuously maintain the Old Chapel to a high standard. Home comforts include a large and very well-equipped kitchen-dining room and a huge open-plan living space with wood-burning stove. Separate TV areas for you and the kids, with smart TV and high-speed broadband. With a wonderfully quirky graveyard in the garden, the Old Chapel is a long way from your usual self-catering Cotswolds holiday cottage. Surrounded by wild flowered meadows, ancient woodland, rolling hills, with breath-taking views and walks directly from the front door, this is an ideal self-catering base for Gloucestershire walking holidays, and is well-positioned for visiting other parts of the Cotswolds, and towns such as Bath and Cirencester. It is available for long weekends, one-week and two-week breaks.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Perfect location to chill out with family!
The Old Chapel is such a welcoming place. Spacious accommodation allowed us all to do our ‘own thing’ and then come together as a family to enjoy dining together. The children loved it, the children’s room is well kitted out for all ages plus enjoying the freedom to play imaginatively - they loved the old desk - reminiscent of my school days of being ink monitor! Some lovely walks to take the dogs. We visited Santa in the Forest of Dean, lights extravaganza at Sudeley Castle and a pantomime at Cirencester college. Finished our weekend roasting marshmallows around the fire-pit - a perfect ending to a perfect weekend!

Perfect holiday in perfect location
What an amazing property in a beautiful location! Slad valley is so lovely, excellent walks from the door, including to Painswick. We also enjoyed walks on the Thames & Severn Canal, Painswick Beacon and Haresfield Hill - wonderful views from both. Excellent meal at Edgemoor Inn in Edge! The Chapel itself was perfect, very spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. It contained interesting art work and artefacts and overall felt very homely. The garden was lovely too. We stayed with friends and relatives - everyone was thrilled with the holiday.

Magical! Will definitely return!
We booked The Old Chapel in Slad as a celebration for my Mum’s 70th birthday. This was also a long overdue post lockdown reunion for us all. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting. The house is beautiful and so unique. It has super modern kitchen and bathrooms as well as funky, interesting art and decor throughout (the owner seems to be good friends with Damien Hirst!). The lounge area is very comfortable as are all of the beds. We were super lucky with the weather so spent most of our time outside at the picnic benches over looking the spectacular views of Slad Valley. Wonderful memorable experiences had at The Woolpack (5 mins walk) as well as The Painswick Hotel and Cowley Manor (book one of their bell tent picnics this summer while you can!). Thank you Jude and Paddy for a truly special weekend. We can’t wait to return! Gemma

Perfect and magical dog friendly house in a beautiful setting
This was our second time at the Old Chapel, the first was when we got married and the second time was to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We were afraid it might not live up to our memories but it surpassed them. Everything is perfect and you can feel yourself unwind from the pressures of life as soon as you walk through the door. There are plenty of lovely villages to visit, and the nearby Woolpack Inn is a must for good food and chatting with the locals. Stroud is nearby for any amenities, but you might find you don’t go anywhere, content with just sitting in the beautifully maintained gardens and drinking in the views across Slad Valley. We will be back, probably next year - can’t wait another 10! Thanks Jude and Paddy

Old Chapel at Slad
Absolutely brilliant, facilities excellent, host couldn’t do enough and the views are amazing. Local pub also served good food. Had Ocado delivered so cooked a lot as well. V handy as so close to Stroud and good railway service to Paddington. Would highly recommend.

A special place to stay!
We were excited about escaping to the Old Chapel after weeks of lockdown and we weren’t disappointed. This is a gorgeous quirky place to stay with fabulous views of the Slad valley, comfy beds, beautiful bed linen and an eclectic art collection. Our days were spent walking parts of the Cotswolds Way and we spent several evenings around the fire pit after dinners in the huge and well-appointed kitchen. The highly rated Woolpack Inn down the road was just starting to reopen and we plan to eat out there next time - we’re already planning our next visit!

nice place, quality furnishings
Accommodation is easy to find, right in Slad. Parking for up to four cars. Less than five minute walk to the Woolpack pub, and perfect if you are planning walking the area. The property is well furnished with quality furniture. A lot of knick knacks around (so nice if you like that, not so if you prefer less cluttered rentals. Comfy beds, TV with sky, games consoles and a separate (small) room for others to watch another TV or play playstation. Kitchen well equipped. Only negative i can think of is could do with curtains over doors as there were drafts - but other than that, definitely would recommend this property.

Beautiful place to stay
The Old Chapel was just the most perfect rental for our weekend away with family and friends. 6 adults, 2 kids and 3 dogs had a great few days in this beautiful property. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a unique place to stay in the glorious Cotswolds countryside.

Highly recommend - you won’t be disappointed
Stayed for 5 days as a base for daughter’s wedding nearby. The house is very well equipped with high quality fixtures and fittings. The beds are super comfy. It was big enough to host guests post-wedding and cosy enough for just three of us in the lead up. There was a dramatic storm one day but we were warm and dry and enjoyed the views across the valley. Would love to return as the local area is stunning. Also highly recommend local pub - The Woolpack. Great food and ambience.
