The cot is a travel cot, needing large undersheet - (Mothercare not big enough)

We stayed here in June for a family celebration. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed a garden BBQ. Excellent secluded location with view of Langdales from upstairs rooms and top of garden. Great walk down the hill into the village. Only downsides are awkward parking (needs confident manoeuvering skills with large vehicles), intermittent Internet access and only one good shower (although that one is very good indeed).

About the neighbourhood
The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, covers a large area with many lakes and low and high fells

Winderemere, Bowness on Winderemere, Grizedale Forest, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston are all within a few miles of Ambleside, offering visitors varied and interesting galleries, museums and visitor attractions.

Kendal is the nearest larger town.

There are National Trust properties in the area, together with other houses and gardens to visit.

There are cycle routes on the fells as well as walks too numerous to mention here

Winderemere is home to Lakeland's main store and also to Booths splendid supermarket


Local butcher is excellent Mr Garside on North Street

Access to high fells from the cottage: Red Screes, Dove Crag, Fairfield Round
Buses run from the village to Kendal, Hawkshead, Grasmere and Coniston.

How to get there
Trains run to Windermere from whence there is a bus or taxi service to Ambleside

Ambleside is at the head of Lake Windermere, the largest of those in The Lake District.

Leave M6 at Junction 36 and follow signs to Windermere and Ambleside. Full directions by email before your holiday. The 2 main parking spaces are fine for eg ML350 size vehicle. I have no problem in and out of the spaces. The car port is large, but is more suitable for a smaller car as lane is single track and bordered by a stone wall.
