So pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We too sometimes enjoy a damp afternoon or evening at the cinema. Ambleside has a lot on offer. It's greatest attraction, being that there are countless walks to explore.

About the neighbourhood
Being set at the foot of Loughrigg Fell, walking is offered in every direction, including a footpath from the doorstep to Loughrigg itself.. There are countless walks straight from the cottage, from the challenging Fairfield Horseshoe to a very pleasant stroll up to Stockghyll Waterfall. .Grasmere is within walking distance; and there are some very popular walks such as The Coffin Route and Loughrigg Terrace..For those who don't wish to spend their holiday walking, there are numerous places nearby to explore. For example Dove Cottage, the family home of William Wordsworth, plus the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere. And of course there is the Beatrix Potter 17th century farmhouse (Hill Top).
Getting around
Ambleside is in the heart of The Lakes, so there are many routes to explore, whether by car, by bike, by bus or on foot OR a combination of ways!
• The 505 CONISTON RAMBLER stops more or less opposite the cottage
• So too does the LANGDALE RAMBLER 516
. If you go into Ambleside, you can catch buses to Kendal, Windermere, Grasmere, Keswick.
If you take advantage of the bus pass offers, then travelling by bus is very economical !
We often catch a bus e.g. To Coniston, then walk back over the fells to our cottage.
Car not needed
How to get there
Railway: Windermere: 8.0 km
From Ambleside follow signs for Coniston, Hawkshead A593.. You will go over a narrow humped back bridge, follow the road for a few hundred yards. The first property on the right is a large cream Manor House called “Croft”. The second turning is into Croft Courtyard, the Mounting Steps is directly in front of you.
