21 of us are just back from 3 nights at the Big White House, the house is very spacious so it never felt like we got in each others way and had plenty of chill out areas when needed.
The house is so well stocked and contained all we needed for the long w/e
The location was perfect for what we wanted to see and do, we also walked the 1 mile to the Mason's Arms on Sunday for a very yummy roast dinner!
We also used Broughton Fish and Chip shop (10 mins away) for our Friday tea and Coniston Catering for the Saturday (both great value for money and tasted awesome also)
If we ever do another family meet in the Lake District the Big White House will be first on our wish list to stay at

Fabulous base for large group stay
Just returned from the Lakes & we were blessed with glorious weather, which made the holiday even better. The Big White House was fabulous for our party of 17 (ages ranging from 3 thru teens to 70's). Everything really clean & fresh & so well stocked with everything you could need in the fabulous kitchen. The house is spacious with enough bathrooms & outside space so you didn't feel on top of each other. Loads of parking for multiple cars & safe space for kids to play. Nicely rural but not too remote to get to beaches (near West Green, Siloth...get an icecream at Twentymans....they are lovely), Whinlatter Forest Park for kids trails & segways, riding at Rookin House, canoeing at Keswick. Lots of shops in nearby towns & we had a Tesco delivery arrive not long after we did which was great. If you are planning a BBQ, the produce at the Farm Shop near Brayton (by golf course) is incredible. Steaks, kebabs, burgers, deli coleslaw & lovely fresh veg. We paid about £250 to hire a 6seater hub tub for the week as per suggestion on the accomodation website. It was there when we arrived all set up & they contacted us to check if all was ok with it. Older kids & adults alike all enjoyed that as a treat. Thoroughly recommend this area to stay in & specifically this house. Would return there any time.

60th Birthday stay
Eighteen of us stayed at the Big White House and had a great time. The dining area is very well planned and designed, with hot plates which we used for our hot buffet on the first night and cooked breakfast in the morning. The kitchen is very well equipped and had every thing we needed. There was good space for everyone. Would recommend the Big House for any large groups.

Christmas gathering in the big white house.
What can i say. Our annual pre Christmas get together all 24 of the clan. The house exceeded all expectations. Wd wanted for nothing. Every little thing covered.
We stayed Friday to monday arriving at various timrs due to work and school. Saturday full monty breakfast for all. Helped immensely by having 2 ovens. Grills etc. Not to mention the hotplates in the dinning room. Out in to workington to see the Christmas markets then back for a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Sunday started the same followed by a visit to maryport.
Some departing sundst evening the rest monday am.
This is by far the best place we have stayed as a group. Having individual rooms with private toilet and sink helped.
Would highly recommend

Large group Holiday
We had a lovely time at the big white house! It was perfect to cater for a large group, with nicely decorated rooms and very clean throughout. There was enough seating both inside and outside to have meals together and in the kitchen there was plenty of equipment to make it easy to cook for a large group. We have now stayed at both the big pink house and the big white house and thoroughly enjoyed our stays at both!

Perfect size for a large group in a beautiful location
The location is beautiful and perfect for visiting Cockermouth, the Coast and Keswick. The house is huge with plenty of space to spread out. We were a party of 24 made up of our families coming together for our Wedding. We held our reception at The Big White House and the dining room was beautiful and just perfect for the day. With the size of the property it meant that everyone could stay over and our day was wonderful and relaxed and we had 4 days of wedding celebrations rather than just one! I would absolutely recommend this property, particularly for a celebration!

As a family group of 17 with ages ranging from 60 to 2 we rented The Big White House for a long weekend for a special family birthday celebration. The house is ideal with plenty space for everyone, an excellently equipped kitchen, pool room and incredible dining room area able to comfortably seat 24 people. It is detached from the nearby village so no worries about noise upsetting neighbours and well within easy driving distance of the Lake District. The local pub less than a mile away is perfect for a drink, takeaway or sit in lunch (of which we did all 3). Will definately be back for the next big celebration.

Great place for a family do
I booked the house for a weekend so that family and friends could help me celebrate my 70th birthday. The house is spacious, comfortable and has an amazingly well equipped kitchen. Even rubber gloves were provided :)
The party included 6 kids who made good use of the two TV Lounges upstairs, the pool room and the field behind the house. We hardly saw them. The dog who came seemed to enjoy herself too.
Excursions included a walk down Allonby beach followed by a visit to the big playground there, and of course ice cream. Other visits were to Cockermouth and the Lakes Distillery. The retirees in the party visited Wellington Farm Cafe near Cockermouth for a hearty breakfast on the Monday morning before we went our separate ways.
A few recommendations:
1. If you have someone who snores loudly put them in bedroom 1
2. The best views with adult beds are from bedroom 9.
3. For a quick, easy and cheap meal order pies from the local pie shop in Dearham. They do both individual and tray pies, sweet and savoury. Yummy.

Set at the confluence of the rivers Cocker and Derwent, Cockermouth is a quaint market town, which although dates back to medieval era the main period of growth was during the Georgian period of the early eighteenth century. The town is eight miles north-west of Keswick hosts a number galleries, river walks and places of historical interest. Cockermouth is the birth place of poet William Wordsworth. This gem of a town with ample galleries, river walks and historic Cockermouth Castle. Lots of pubs, specialist shopping and restaurants. Close to Bassenthwaite Lake there are so many other things to do and see in Cockermouth, making it the perfect family location. Cockermouth also does not suffer overcrowding of some of the more central Lake District towns.
