Sunny Bank Farm is a spacious and beautifully furnished 17th century farmhouse set in large grounds, with lovely lawned garden. An open fire, central-heating and double-glazing throughout make it an excellent year-round holiday venue, and an ideal base for walking, touring, boating or just relaxing in peaceful surroundings.
Situated on the quiet western shore of Coniston Water, not far from Peel Island ('Wildcat Island' of Swallows and Amazons fame), Sunny Bank Farm is bordered by Torver Common affording fantastic views out over the lake. The fields are grazed by sheep and include several wooded areas and extensive private lake frontage where you can launch your own boat or hire our rowing boat and canoe.

Sunny Bank Farm originated as a small farmhouse in the 17th century but was more than doubled in size about a hundred years l...

The family all gathered here for a delightful Christmas. I won't say it was restful as there is so much to do. We, the adults, could retreat to a s nug room with a roaring fire whilst all the grandchildren were in the next room either playing games, watching TV or a video: that is after a good meal round...

Thanks so much for a great review - I do hope you'll be back!

Wonderful property for extended family holiday. Plenty of room, beautiful setting, well laid out idiosyncratic architecture, fully equipped ... there was even a Christmas tree and lights for our festive family meeting. Kids loved the play barn, adults loved the large sitting room with cosy open fire, separate snug with tv helped manage differing entertainment needs of differing generations. Would...

This was our third visit to Sunnybank Farm and the house is even better now with the new additions and bathrooms. We love the house, the gardens, the lake access, everything. It is the perfect place for large family reunions. We will be back!

Management response:

Thank you so much for a great review. I hope you will come back for a fourth visit!

About the neighbourhood
Sunny Bank Farm is 4 miles from Coniston, a small but busy typical Lakeland town, and just a mile from Torver, where there are 2 pubs, both serving excellent food. There are some wonderful local walks such as exploring the old quarries above Torver, climbing to the top of Coniston Old Man and coming back via Dow Crag, or you can use the Sunny Bank Jetty to combine a lakeside walk with a ride on Coniston Launch.

The steamboat Gondola also sails from Coniston around the lake and stops off at Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin. For the more adventurous, horse-riding is available at Torver, a variety of watercraft may be hired in Coniston, and Grizedale Forest is an excellent location for mountain biking.
