About the neighbourhood
Torver, in the shadow of 'Coniston Old Man', nestles a pretty community based hamlet approx. 2 miles from Coniston. With easy access to the southern fells of the Lake District, it is quiet enough to be away from the main tourist hub, yet a thriving vibrancy exists with stunning scenery and activities on your doorstep. With two great pubs and a local village deli, you can dine with locals and tourists alike, enjoying award-winning real ales, open log-fires and banter with local characters and friendly, welcoming staff, you'll soon feel part of the Torver family. A wealth of activities from gentle walks to rock-climbing, lake cruises to gorge scrambling can be enjoyed. Torver Country Fair is usually mid August annually, and with vintage motor cycle gatherings, charity tractor runs and ot...
Getting around
The easiest and most convenient way to get around is by car, if you're not walking, are less mobile or venturing further afield. Local Taxis based in Coniston are rare but it can be possible if booked well in advance. Taxis will be available from the larger towns (Ulverston, Ambleside) and a premium will be charged for the distance callout. There are local bus stops within 150m, the x12 bus run approx every 1.5hrs during the day down to Coniston and over to Ulverston. Connections can be made from Coniston across to Ambleside and Lake Windermere and from Ulverston to Barrow-in-Furness.
