Holiday Rental House
Morland House is a large manor house in the picturesque village of Morland, in the Eden Valley in Cumbria, sleeping 18 people in 9 bedrooms. The core of the house is 16th century, but it has been added to many times over the years. Originally a vicarage, it has been the home of the Markham family since 1828, when an ancestor was vicar of Morland church, and was purchased in 1871 when a new (smaller) vicarage was built elsewhere. The house features oak-panelled main rooms, including a grand dining room for special dinners, a long drawing room seating 16 with a grand piano, an inner hall with a log-burning stove, plus a family kitchen, games room, snug, caterer's kitchen for parties, and more. There are 9 bedrooms, of which 3 are en-suite, and the remainder share 3 additional bathrooms. There are 9 bedrooms, of which 3 are en-suite, and the remainder share 3 additional bathrooms. There are two woodburning stoves and three usable fireplaces. On a more modern note, there is good wifi coverage throughout the house, two large TVs and a stereo music system. The property also benefits from a large, interesting and beautiful 4-acre garden including a beck (river), waterfall, bridges, stepping stones, private section for guests with a patio and summer house, orchard, and croquet lawn. It is a perfect place for large family gatherings, anniversaries, birthdays, or weddings. It is available for weekends, mid-week breaks or full weeks all year round. Morland itself is in Cumbria's Eden Valley on the edge of the Lake District. The nearest lake, Ullswater, is 20 minutes away. The Eden Valley is full of quiet walking and cycling routes with great views to the Lake mountains and the Pennines. It contains many attractive small towns and pretty villages in rolling rural countryside around the river Eden. There are excellent walks from the door. This was the perfect venue for our '50th anniversary of Graduation' gathering! The house is very quirky, full of interesting treasures, and its history - in evidence everywhere - was fascinating. The grounds are wonderful, with lovely shady places to escape the extreme heat that...More
