About the neighbourhood
We are just 25 minutes away from the city centre by direct underground or rail, yet the area is quiet and safe and ideal to relax in the garden after a busy day seeing the sights. There are plenty of food stores, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Co-op and many more local stores, within walking distance.Restaurants and eating places include, The harvester, close to Arnos Grove station, one of my favourites, because you can enjoy typical English food at reasonable prices, a fantastic take away 'fish and chip' restaurant (The Mariner), also close to Arnos Grove station, an Oriental restaurant ' Spice Gate' and a great Italian restaurant called 'Da Franco. 1 km away. We are also very lucky to have several big green parks nearby to be able to walk and relax
Getting around
The best way to reach the centre is by train (New Southgate) this is 2 minutes walk from the house and Arnos Grove 10 minutes walk. You can download the London Underground map to see them both, I recommend you buy Oyster cards (in the newsagent at the end of the road) and top it up as you need, that's how we normally get around when we are at our house. We are in zone 4. The Oyster card can be used on underground, rail and buses. At the end of the road there are also a number of buses which take you into the centre, it takes a little longer because of traffic. In our area, you can walk around in safety without being worried about personal safety.
