Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

It's nice, if you turn a blind eye to certain aspect
First off, this is a lovely little grade 2 listed cottage in the heart of old Whitby. You really get a sense of what life would have been like. It is very small, but that adds to the quaint feel. Location wise could not be better and despite the below, I had a lovely time. But it is only fair to forewarn people of
1. You get a parking voucher, which can be used in certain zones. They say you can use Church St car park but this is very small and presumably all other local properties are giving the same advice. We ended up dumping our stuff and having to park about a mile away.
2. The fridge freezer you see in the photos does not exist in this property. It has been replaced by a very small fridge freezer, and the freezer compartment is tiny, and weirdly only froze half of the ice pops we put in there (about all it could fit in).
3. We booked this through Ingrid Flute's Yorkshire. There has been an over hang from Covid where check out time is 10am and check in is 4pm. This is so the place can be given a deep clean and is for our own saftey etc etc. Firstly, 4pm check in is ridiculous. That's the day gone. In winter it would be dark already. With young kids, you're thinking about dinner and bed. But mainly, for our safety? The place was filthy. The bathroom and kitchen were fine, but everywhere else had not been looked at. Empty sweet rappers on the floors, a lost sock in the wardrobe, dust all over the living room. More ingrained than this was mouldy windows, dirty walls etc. I am prepared to let a lot go, but it really was bad. This just angered me more with the whole 4pm check in time. I will not be using Ingrid Flute again or any other company with such ridiculous arrival and leave times.
3. The bed in the main bedroom sounds like a sinking ship with every move. I mean this when I say it, if your partner rolls over in the night, the sound of the bed will wake you up.
4. Ingrid Flute are selective with which reviews they post on their website. Use other websites for a more accurate view.
5. When you leave you will be asked to strip all bedding and place it in a large laundry bag with the towels. This is fine, but I have therefore done half of the cleaning job. All the cleaners had done was make the bed and clean the bathroom and kitchen. How this takes 6 hours is beyond me.
6. Sky tv isn't Sky tv, but freeview through a Sky box. I am not sure what package it was but you couldn't get any basic Sky channels.
Even the downsides were bearable for the short time we were there. But it may affect some people a little more.
