Amazing!
We have just got back from 5 days spent at the dovecote barns. There are 3 barns there, the irishmans, the haybarn and the dovecote. We stayed in the dovecote and it was beautiful. It is incredibly well finished, with super comfy beds, powerful showers and a kitchen to die for!
Brigita the owner was very welcoming and very helpful during our stay. The other guests who were staying in the other 2 barns left the day before us and Brigita showed us what the other two were like. They are all amazing and are the perfect getaway.
I cannot recommend Dovecote highly enough, we will definitely be returning. We did enquire about a trip at Xmas but unsurprisingly they are fully booked. We will be back though.

Even the weather was perfect
Located near York and the East coast ,The Dovecote has all home comforts and more . The ensuite bedrooms are excellent . The kitchen very well equipped . We had a marvellous 4 day stay .
We hope to visit again soon .

Lovely base for some cycling and more...
Our stay at The Dovecote was very comfortable indeed - Brigita had ensured we had everything we needed and was very welcoming. We spent a wonderful week cycling in the sunshine with no hills to negotiate. Using an OS map and signposted routes you can enjoy lovely quiet rides. On the morning it rained York was close at hand.The Railway Museum and all that York had to offer kept us entertained. Local walks in the sunshine along the river were a delight.
The Dovecote is an excellent base.

A beautifully converted barn in a peaceful location yet so close to York
The barn is well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. A welcome hamper awaits you including local produce and freshly baked bread. You’re assured a very warm and friendly welcome from Brigita, the owner. We’ve spent 9 very happy Chirstmases at the Dovecote and our 10th is already booked, need we say more!

Great house with spacious bedrooms
We very much enjoyed our visit to the dovecote barn. The house was very nicely decorated for Xmas and had all the needed amenities.
Both bedrooms had an ensuite which was a nice surprise as we didn't notice that when booking!
The only thing to note is that it's three stories so might not be suitable is your find it hard to go up and down the stairs.

Such a wonderful place to stay!
We booked for the Christmas week December 22 to spend time with our family who live in the village. The welcome from Brigita was amazing so thoughtful. Impeccably clean and so well equipped, and a glorious welcome hamper, home made bread, local preserves and local eggs and bacon too. The beds were so comfortable, best nights sleep away from home for years, and our Labrador experienced a wonderful bed as well. This is a great place from which to explore York, Scarborough and the Whitby coast in an idyllic location.
This host works incredibly hard to ensure everyone has everything they need and a great time, we will definitely be back!

About the neighbourhood
When you are ready to venture out there are a couple of walks from the door to choose from. Behind the arable farm there you can walk on the grassed field margins to Kelfield Wood where there are wild deer. Alternatively you can walk along the riverbank to Cawood, site of Cardinal Wolseys Cawood Castle. There are pubs, shop/post office and farm shop for some basic supplies. Alternatively, Riccall is 2 miles away which has pubs, lovely restaurants, post office, grocery shops, a childrens' play park and sport centre. There are a couple of nice walks from the door, particularly good for keen bird watchers and also nearby Skipwith Common, a 1000 acre nature reserve which is also good for cyclists.The Dovecote Barns offer the perfect retreat for romantic couples, families, wedding parties, family reunions and groups getting together or celebrating a special occasion, wanting both peace and quiet as well as easy access to either York or Leeds.

A public bus service runs past the barns on the Selby-York Utopia 420 route. This means it takes 30 mins by bus from either Selby or York Piccadilly. Trains operate from London Kings Cross to both Selby and York via different operators. Car hire is available from York station and it is advised for ease of transport during your break.<BR>
