The Old Stables is a lovely cottage perfect for a couple looking for a quiet rural holiday. Set on a farm with alpacas, goats, donkeys and lots more, the cottage is in a lovely Oxfordshire Cotswold village but conveniently near to Chipping Norton, Oxford, Stratford, Burford and Blenheim Palace. It has been specified to the highest standard with a Hypnos bed for a good night's sleep, well equipped kitchen with the added benefits of a dishwasher and washer/dryer and it has a bathroom with both a lovely deep bathtub and a monsoon shower overhead. If it's chilly there's underfloor heating throughout and a woodburner in the lounge so even in winter it's lovely and cosy. Outside there is a private garden area with terrace, lawn and hot tub for your personal use during your stay (conditions of use apply) and there's plenty of garden furniture so you can relax or dine outside in good weather. The whole cottage has Infinity WiFi access and there's a Sony Smart TV with satellite in the lounge plus DAB stereo and DVD player. You'll find plenty of films to watch, music to listen to and books to read if you want some quiet time in. A car is essential to get about from here but you have your own space to park one car right alongside the cottage. There is a pub which serves excellent food about a 15 - 20 minute walk from here. If you'd like to bring bicycles with you there is storage space in a summerhouse next to the cottage. For information, the cottage, its garden and the whole of the farm is non smoking - the nearest place you can smoke is on the road outside of the farm gate.More

Interaction with guests
We live on the farm so are about most days should you need us however we do respect your privacy so have made the cottage and it's garden self contained. When you arrive we'll give you a quick 'guided tour' of the cottage and show you how to use the hot tub - after that we'll leave you to it! You may see us leading horses and donkeys through the paddock and maybe when we come to check the hot tub (which we have to do on a daily basis) but that will be about it unless necessary until you return the keys on departure.

A great base to explore the Cotswolds from. We were welcomed with delicious home baked pastries and given a quick tour. The cottage is very comfortable and full of all mod cons. Superb. Bourton and the Hook Norton brewery tour were two of the highlights,...More

About the neighbourhood
Swerford is a very pretty, quiet village on the edge of the Cotswolds. The nearest town is Chipping Norton which is a 10 minutes drive and has good food shops, newsagents, gift and antique shops. It's got it's own little theatre and some nice places to eat and drink and a weekly market. Further afield by car you can be in Oxford or Stratford in 40 minutes, Burford or Woodstock (for Blenheim Palace) are only 20 minutes away. The area is perfect for walking, cycling and riding and there are numerous places of interest to visit including National Trust properties, the Rollright Stones and the Hook Norton Brewery in the next village. The nearest pub is about a 15-20 minute walk or just a few minutes drive and serves excellent food.
Getting around
We do recommend you bring a car for getting around as the village doesn't have a regular public transport service. The nearest railway stations are Banbury or Charlbury, both with good services into central London and Oxford. Banbury also runs to Birmingham and beyond, whilst Charlbury trains head in the direction of Hereford. Bus routes run through Hook Norton which is the village next to us or along the main road which is about a 15 minute walk. The nearest airport is Birmingham International.
