Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Excellent long weekend - perfect cottage
Owners very friendly. Flowers were a lovely touch. Good location near to Derby, Trentham Gardens, Hanley - we used as a base for Christmas Shopping. Cottage just like home from home, cosy, clean and warm. Fab underfloor heating.

Perfect base for Alton Towers
We are just back from three nights in this lovely cottage. Well equipped and cosy and has everything you need. We were using this as a base to visit Alton Towers for a few days and the location was perfect. We were visiting with our two kids so a much better option than a hotel room. Will definitely return.

Lovely relaxing stay at the cottage
We arrived from London by train into Stoke on Trent and picked up our rental car. Off to the cottage went to unload the car and find it! It is on a working farm but our trusty satnav found the way 🙂 The cottage has everything you need and the first thing we needed was to do some washing. Job done! We headed back to Stoke to find some of the potteries and decide which ones we wanted to explore more of. Again we worked out our next two days. We also went to Sainsburys and got our breakfast food. The cottage is close to everything we wanted to do. Beth has collected a lot of info about where to eat at night if you don't want to cook. We followed the recommendations and had great pub meals in the local pubs. The Queen being our favourite. Thanks to our hosts Beth and Glyn for having us we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxed stay.

Relaxing and quiet stay in beautiful countryside
Oak Cottage is decorated and equipped to a very high standard and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and helpful owners, Beth and Glyn. We felt very much at home during our stay. The location is ideal for both the Peak District and places such as Alton Towers, Leek and Stoke on Trent. There are several National Trust properties in easy reach. We had a very enjoyable week.

Lovely place to stay!
Oak Cottage was a lovely place to return to. Once again the welcome was warm and personal, again the ideal place for us to book for a person with disabilities, the upstairs private bedroom and bathroom perfect for a carer. A lovely getaway close to the potteries and museums. Thank you once again :)

perfect cottage in a scenic part of the country
we were greeted by Glyn who is so funny telling us all sorts of tales from his past ! Beth is a very bubbly chatty lady who will sort out any problems ASAP and was lovely to talk to, The fresh eggs bread and milk went down a treat ! My mum has a walking disability and the layout of the downstairs was easy for her to get around by holding onto the walls and worktops. The shower was a wet room but from our point of view could have done with a handle for the disabled user to help pull them up from the shower chair or toilet , but apart from that a lovely property. The Dorothy clive gardens are a fantastic place to visit as well as the National properties in the area ,

Hello Sue and thank you for the review. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye - but France was lovely. if you do come again your mum might find it easier in Chestnut Cottage (next door) which is our approved cottage for "the elderly and less mobile" (rated M1) or she could borrow our toilet seat riser which has armrests . We'll see what we can do about a hand rail in the shower! Hope to see you again someday Beth

Perfect for family weekend
A lovely long weekend family break made all the better after arriving at Oak Cottage, welcomed by Beth with fresh milk and eggs a unique touch. The property is all we could have asked, two large double bedrooms , modern kitchen and dining area, all fresh , clean and has everything you need. My two boys loved their own space in the amazing upstairs bedroom with sofa and tv and own bathroom. Would definitely return here again.

Excellent accomodation on the edge of the Peak District.
We had a very warm welcome from Beth and found the Cottage to be clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. We used it as a base to complete 2 good walks, one around Ilam and Dovedale and another around Alton. This gave our Australian guests a glimpse of the Peak District which was enhanced by dry and sunny weather. We happily ate our evening meal twice in the cottage and once at a nearby pub which was well received. It was a lovely few days away.

About the neighbourhood
We are very rural with lovely walks from the door, nature reserves and 2 steam railways within 5 miles, but only a mile from the A52 with Alton Towers, Trentham Estate, The Potteries, Leek, Ashbourne, Uttoxeter, Cheadle and the Peak District all within half an hour.
Getting around
You need a car!
Access
Car required
How to get there
You do need a car as the nearest bus stop is about 1.5 miles away on a very busy main road with no pavement. Our postcode ST10 2PL will bring you to the door but usually up the lane which is a couple of miles long and single track. It is easier to come in from the A52 from Werrington(Cellarhead) to Cheadle. About 1 mile after the lights turn right for Dilhorne, after half a mile turn right for Caverswall and we are 0.4 miles on the right after the farm with a high wall. The cottages are clearly signed as are the parking spaces.
