Lovely setting and great views from the cottage. The location is good for visiting Brecon Beacon area: a local canal trip from Brecon, a walk and watch the boats at the cafe at Goyre Wharf and walks on Sugar Loaf .We also had days out to Aberfan( visit the site of the 1966 disaster- very moving), Cardiff, Portcawl, Barry Island( Gavin...

Management response:

Ah Heather, what can I say. We can only apologise profusely for an unfortunate run of events. Having had to have our two much loved donkeys put down that week we probably took our eye off the ball. We ran out of heating oil – new tank and inaccurate measuring -and rang for oil immediately we found out but it...

I don't know where to start - the cottage is chocolate box beautiful and the views are so stunning. Waking up every morning and being able to gaze across the valley was a perfect remedy to my usual morning view of bumper to bumper traffic on the M25. We stayed for a week and I could have stayed for longer....

Management response:

It gives us great pleasure when guests appreciate our little cottage - the adage "arrive as guests and depart as friends" seems appropriate. See you next year hopefully Sandra

About the neighbourhood
Tyn-y-bryn is only a mile from the market town of Abergavenny. Known as the Gateway to Wales, this historic market town features, amongst other attractions, fat stock and produce markets on Tuesdays and Fridays, a medieval castle, St Mary's priory church which houses the famous Jesse tree and an outstanding collection of tombs - it is known as the Westminster Abbey of Wales - and several attractive parks and gardens.
The surrounding countryside offers a wide range of activities - walking, canoeing, canal boating and sailing, caving, pony trekking, hang-gliding, gliding and several golf courses (including a public course and driving range just over a mile from Tyn-y-bryn), as well as the famous Celtic Manor resort where the 2010 Ryder Cup was played.

On arrival at the big roundabout just outside Abergavenny take the A465 towards Hereford. This road bypasses the town – you need to drive 2.9 miles along until you come to the turning Left for Abergavenny. Drive along this road for 0.7 miles then take the turning on the Right.
Follow this road up the hill and around a right-angled bend then after about 200 yards take the lane that goes up to the Left.
At this stage look up – you will see Tyn-y-bryn in front of you and the cottage is on the left (covered with Virginia creeper if it is summer time). At the T junction go Left and then take the next lane on the Right named Ymyl y Deri/ Deriside which is just after a large white house with blue paintwork.
