Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Better late than never.
We originally booked to stay at Velvet cottage in September 2020 but Covid put paid to that. We booked again for this year and have just returned from our week there. The cottage is ideally situated about a mile from Llangollen so is close enough to walk to the local amenities. The cottage itself was comfortable with great views of the surrounding area. The hosts gave lots of advice about local amenities and recommended walks and local restaurants. We hope to return again.

Wonderful, relaxing break
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and was absolutely delighted with the cottage and the fantastic location. The cottage was clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday. The heating did not come on once but I contacted the owner and he fixed it remotely straight away, so was not an issue. The walks from the cottage that we did with our dogs was fabulous and the outstanding countryside is breathtakingly beautiful. The little town is also worth a trip as it's quant and very pretty. We will definitely return as there are more places we just never got time to visit. Thanks very much for a wonderful week in your pretty little cottage.

Great base!
The location of this cottage is great. Nice and clean, everything in it that you need. Loads to see and do on your doorstep. Nice walks, lovely local Bistro for food and drinks. Castles, Abbeys, waterfalls, Agueduct all within 15 mins drive. Would definitely recommend and will more than likely return in the future. Info from Ian and Yvonne very clear and helpful.

excellent stay
we had a lovely stay in velvet cottage me ,my hubby and granddaughter and our dog. nice spacious cottage very old and quirky my granddaughter had the single room because she said it was very cosy, even though she could have had the twin room she loved it. bathroom was very large all towels supplied nice large kitchen dining room and comfy lounge. we didnt manage to eat out around the cottage, there is a pub in 2 mins walking and abbey across the road to eat both looked really nice. while there we went on the horse drawn boats and across the aqueduct and on the steam train well worth doing in the town there is lovely cafes and restaurants just 5 mins drive or about 30 mins walk. we had a lovely stay and i would recommend it the hosts were very informative before we got there. the garden is on a few levels but very nice and safe for the dog.

A great place to stay to be near Llangollen
Out of Llangollen going up towards the horseshoe pass. Beautiful views. Great base for a stay in Wales. A lovely cottage with everything we needed. Walking distance to a pub. Walking distance to The Chain bridge Hotel and horseshoe falls. Easy distance to the canal. Steep steps up the front so not for those unsteady on feet. Spacious kitchen with great views for breakfast. Comfy kingsize bed. Best of all though is that it is dog friendly and for me that’s what counts 🐕!

Thanks for the review, we're really pleased you enjoyed your visit! We installed a handrail in Spring 2020 so the front steps should no longer be an issue. All the best, hope to host you again in the future, Ian & Yvonne.

Rustic charm
My fellow companion and I have often driven along the A5 through Llangollen into Snowdonia but never had time to to stop and appreciate the Llangollen valley and the river D. We found Velvet cottage on line and decided to book a 3 day stop over on our return trip from further north. The cottage was warm and comfortable boasting glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Private off road parking was a welcome bonus especially as the lane was very narrow , but quiet for all that. Inside the kitchen was spacious, accomodating a good size table and six chairs. Fridge/freezer, microwave, oven, cutlery pots, pans and crockery were all in good order and housed in modern units. The sitting room was warm and cosy with two sofas, TV and dvd player. It also featured the luxury of extra heating in excess to the central heating. The bathroom boasted a bath and separate electric shower. The master bedroom was blessed with a huge 6' wide bed and yet a further TV and Dvd. Two smaller bedrooms offered a further three single beds. I cant describe the internal decor as luxurious , some of which looked a little tired and rustic but maybe in keeping with the age and character of the cottage. However all was clean and comfortable and we are eager to plan return visit on a future trip. Very acceptable eating out facilities were as close as a five minute walk, extending to further options within easy reach or a short drive. And talking of walks, you really are spoilt for choice. Just turning left from the cottage gate brought you into stunning views as the route circumnavigated Velvet Hill. Nearby town of Llangollen offered plenty of interest, not to mention the turbulent river D flowing in picturesque torrents, and the peace and serenity of the Llangollen canal. We enjoyed a very pleasant cruise to and over the nearby aquaduct. In conclusion, did we enjoy our stay? Yes, very much. A peaceful location with stunning views and many local attractions. We will definitely be aiming to return to Velvet cottage .

Lovely clean cottage in a beautiful location
The cottage is in a beautiful location surrounded by amazing views. The cottage is very well equipped and clean. Llangollen is charming and the canal trip across the aqueduct is well worth doing. Chester is not far away and we spent a great day there. Also not far from the coast.

Great early Easter stay
We have just returned from a 5 day stay at Velvet Cottage, and our only complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer. The cottage is really well appointed and spacious - there is plenty of seating in the living room, and the little electric stove was fabulous for keeping warm in the chilly April evenings. The views are stunning - many fantastic walks on the doorstep, and a pub within a short stroll! You couldn’t ask for more. The kids really enjoyed the little terrace at the back up against the hillside, and kept asking if they could eat their meals up there! Llangollen is a beautiful town and there is so much to do and see; we feel we haven’t really scratched the surface. We are already looking to see when we can come back! Thank you Ian and Yvonne.
